Amber Heard decision&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>There is no better example of the unholy trinity of Hollywood, politics and the press smugly lecturing America it must do better than Amber Heard\u2019s 2018 Washington Post op-ed headlined \u201cI spoke up against sexual violence \u2014 and faced our culture\u2019s wrath. That has to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The piece was ostensibly a call for congressional action \u201cin a transformative political moment\u201d from \u201can actress and ambassador on women\u2019s rights at the American Civil Liberties Union\u201d \u2014 but was actually a well-placed part of a smear campaign meant to ruin the reputation of a man who didn\u2019t give her enough millions in their divorce.<\/p>\n<p>Johnny Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation over the column; the suburban Washington jury that heard Depp v. Heard delivered justice. And not just for the actor \u2014 the jury sent a clear message about what Heard and the movement she supposedly stands for have inflicted on America.<\/p>\n<p>Depp can buy new, feces-free sheets. Repairing his reputation will be more difficult. Harder still will be undoing the damage done to us all by the insistence that we must believe every woman every time. (As long as the man isn\u2019t a useful Democrat, anyway.)<\/p>\n<p>The nation wasn\u2019t riveted for weeks because Depp kept us entertained with jokes about whence the comely-but-crazy Heard got her roles and how he gave shock-rocker Marilyn Manson drugs \u201cso that he would stop talking so much.\u201d Would-be spectators didn\u2019t line the streets around the Fairfax, Va., courthouse so they could get a glimpse of a celebrity. Well, not <em>just <\/em>for those things. The case caught attention partly because of a spreading backlash to the excesses of the MeToo movement.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/JohnnyDepp.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Actor Johnny Depp \" class=\"wp-image-22498890\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/JohnnyDepp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/JohnnyDepp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/JohnnyDepp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The jury delivered a rightful decision of awarding millions of damage cost to Depp.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">EPA\/Steve Helber\/POOL<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In her fateful op-ed, Heard wrote that \u201cmen have the power \u2014 physically, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a>ly and financially\u201d but also noted: \u201cWomen\u2019s rage and determination to end sexual violence are turning into a political force.\u201d Indeed, that rage turned into power in many cases, as the left insisted that any accusation be accepted uncritically.<\/p>\n<p>Heard said in a statement after the verdict \u2014 which was overseen by a glass-ceiling-busting female judge \u2014 \u201cIt sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.\u201d No, enabling liars and grifters who undermine victims who need our aid and compassion does that.
