“#How Amanda Kloots is coping with Nick Cordero\u2019s death: Fitness is \u2018therapy\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Amanda Kloots is moving forward, full speed ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t idle well,\u201d the 38-year-old fitness maven told The Post, just over a month after her husband, Broadway actor Nick Cordero, died at 41 from COVID-19 complications, leaving behind Kloots and their 1-year-old son, Elvis.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Kloots announced her first live workout class since the pandemic hit, setting off her husband\u2019s monthslong battle with the virus. Her fans, who followed her constant updates on Cordero\u2019s health, showed up in droves to support her: The 250 digital slots filled up \u201cin a couple of hours,\u201d Kloots said.<\/p>\n

Although still in the raw, early stages of grief, Kloots says she expects teaching the class will be a form of healing for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so easy to watch another Netflix show and not .\u2009.\u2009. get out of bed,\u201d said Kloots, who previously performed on Broadway and had a spot on the kick-line as a Radio City Rockette before teaching group fitness at Bandier\u2019s New York studio starting in April 2016. \u201c[But teaching] always made me so happ<\/a>y and filled me with a ton of energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her work in the fitness world has also taken on new meaning since Cordero\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter what I went through with Nick, you realize how important it is to stay healthy, and eat healthy and move your body,\u201d Kloots said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have the ability to stand on your feet, and to walk, to jump, and skip and smile. Don\u2019t take it for granted. Use your body.\u201d<\/p>\n

She and Cordero, who met on Broadway, had only lived in LA for a few months when Cordero was hospitalized, then placed into a medically induced coma, where his health declined.<\/p>\n

Kloots updated her social<\/a>-media feed throughout Cordero\u2019s illness, captivating fans and followers who played Cordero\u2019s music, specifically his song \u201cLive Your Life\u201d daily at 3 p.m., and rallied around the hashtag #WakeUpNick.<\/p>\n

After Cordero passed away on July 5, Kloots said moving her body was a key \u201cstress reliever\u201d and \u201ctherapy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure if my sister in-law did it for herself or for me, but she asked, \u2018Can you train me every day?\u2019 \u201d said Kloots, who, in addition to training her sister-in-law every morning since her husband died, took up tennis at the suggestion of Christa Bennett, her best friend and also former Rockette. \u201cShe said, \u2018Just find something new for yourself that\u2019s not tied to anything and can be part of your new life.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

Also part of her new life: a new house in Laurel Canyon, that she moved into Wednesday. Kloots said on Instagram that owning a home was \u201cNick\u2019s dream\u201d and shouted out NYC-based interior designer Michelle Gerson and her late husband\u2019s celeb pal Zach Braff for their help transitioning. Braff was seen last month on a walk with baby Elvis, and his girlfriend, actress Florence Pugh and even got a commemorative tattoo of his late friend.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Nick\u2019s] presence is definitely in the house,\u201d said Kloots, who stayed in Braff\u2019s guest house for several months during her husband\u2019s battle with COVID. \u201cIt feels like a new chapter, and all of the memories of everything that happened have been in other homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said grief \u201chits her at weird times,\u201d such as when she\u2019s driving down a familiar block in their new city. \u201cI\u2019ll see a restaurant we ate at, and that\u2019s what triggers me,\u201d said Kloots.<\/p>\n

Kloots said listening to Cordero\u2019s music has been one of the biggest helps.\u00a0She\u2019s also been blasting adrenaline-pumping pop music to get in the zone for her upcoming class \u2014 though her son prefers the oldies.<\/p>\n

\u201cElvis loves the Beach Boys,\u201d said Kloots who added that her baby, who \u201chas Nick\u2019s face\u201d seems to hit a new milestone every day. \u201cYesterday for the first time, I was folding laundry and dancing around the bedroom, and he danced too. He started bouncing around and shaking his head.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said her son \u201ckeeps me so happy and smiling,\u201d and serves as motivation to get to work training students. Her class on Friday costs $25 and will support her and her family. She also has a $9.99 a month subscription service on her website, which includes short workouts.<\/p>\n

Her three signature classes include a jump-rope routine called AKRope, which \u201ctones your entire body while doing cardio intervals,\u201d the AKBody class, \u201ca mix of light weight toning exercises and cardio bursts,\u201d and AKDance \u2014 \u201cit\u2019s what I\u2019m teaching this Friday. I make up dances to pop songs, and it\u2019s really high-energy and nonstop for 50 minutes.\u201d She calls the workout \u201cBritney Spears backup dancer meets Jane Fonda,\u201d and promises a sweat.<\/p>\n

She has a fourth addition to her lineup coming soon based on the sessions she had with her sister-in-law, and promised \u201ca two-minute workout.\u201d She\u2019ll be training virtually from the Bandier\u2019s Studio B in LA and said the Zoom class on Friday, which she hopes to make \u201cmore consistent\u201d going forward, will \u201cmake me feel like myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like I\u2019m coming home, and that I\u2019m where I need to be,\u201d said Kloots.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
