No one is suggesting employees could indulge in some industrial welding from the comfort of their apartment,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But making cars is not just about working the assembly line \u2014 roles like design and engineering use software to build vehicle concepts and systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likewise, marketing, business development, accounting, HR, finance, and a myriad of other roles do not require a need an office.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, it\u2019s funny to hear commentar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y on productivity from someone who spends a large chunk of his time talking crap on Twitter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_minimum_40_hours\"><\/span><strong>A minimum 40 hours?!\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s not forget that Musk\u2018s email admits to overworking his employees, stating they need to work a \u201cminimum 40h.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He notes, \u201cThis is less than we ask of factory workers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloody hell, what\u2019s the maximum then?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And if we look at factory floor jobs, I don\u2019t want people performing dangerous jobs involving robots and machinery to be overworked and tired.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Predictably, Tesla is getting lots of pushback, with German unions representing the newly opened Brandenburg Gigafactory <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/nein-danke-musks-office-ultimatum-134453191.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9kdWNrZHVja2dvLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAMnKK2fBaCcbCMKH9SZStHPIre02F7y_Kc4uF_dVXa95kRGfnpJGq4_Ieey8zotd8K4t-33kiLFD2P5za1XdjLXlhUaCZ66QF_-oFLZlSPMl6wKnmFa1G6keGe9i3sXznMp1iYGq8f8p4U8NioIevvuoQctYF9vkqZwC89PLtBxJ\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offering to support local employees<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tesla employs around 4,000 people in Germany out of about <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/314768\/number-of-tesla-employees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">99,000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> globally.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CAmericans_are_lazy%E2%80%9D\"><\/span><strong>\u201cAmericans are lazy\u201d<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last month Musk spoke at a conference organized by the Financial Times, <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/50d2861e-fdeb-487c-b052-f2021558e87d\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where he told attendees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s just a lot of super talented and hardworking people in China that strongly believe in manufacturing. And they won\u2019t just be burning the midnight oil. They\u2019ll be burning the 3 am oil. So they won\u2019t even leave the factory type of thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whereas in America, people are trying to avoid going to work at all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elon also shared on Twitter that all employees use the same toilets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t care if Elon wants to spend his life at a factory sleeping on the floor as a one-man solution to bring the IT and OT workers together.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He could cushion any cold hard floor with his pile of money. Yesterday, Musk apparently <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/business\/elon-musk-tesla-cut-staff-10-cent-pauses-all-hiring-2725111\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sent an email to Tesla employees<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">titled \u201cpause all hiring worldwide,\u201d citing a need to cut staff by about 10%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look, I\u2019m not sure how many people in non-manufacturing roles will jump to companies with more life balance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But these are people who can work in any job, and it seems awfully convenient that Musk is talking about people going to work somewhere else, and the need to cut staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It all sounds like a handy way to justify culling employee numbers and reduce severance costs by getting people to quit.\u00a0<\/span>\n                        <\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
