Woods suffered multiple bone fractures along with muscle damage and was lucky to have survived the accident.  <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Then, at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla., Woods limped and labored to a career-worst score at the event, forcing his withdrawal, the only time he\u2019s done that in a major since he was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com.au\/golf\/tiger-woods-appears-to-injure-wrist-during-rain-interrupted-first-round-of-us-open\/news-story\/359539fbdd6fe4d0e99ec44e88f0fac9\">a 19-year-old amateur playing in the 1995 US Open, when he pulled out with a wrist injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But that look of discomfort, and even a hint of embarrassment, as he tried to complete that third round at Southern Hills was as obvious as it was upsetting. Gone was the trademark power that saw him win 15 majors, second only to Jack Nicklaus. Boxing legend Muhammad Ali met a similar fate, enduring high-profile losses before eventually retiring in 1981.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Yes, talking the talk is one thing but walking the walk \u2013 literally \u2013 is another matter entirely for Woods.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Will it get any better? Sure, he will get stronger over time but there were already a lot of miles on the clock. Now 46, his body had already endured so much before the crash, including five back operations dating back a decade and as many surgeries on his knees, the first of which was in 1994. Time was always going to catch up with him.<\/p>\n<p>So he should take next week off. Look at Tom Brady. He\u2019s just reportedly signed a 10-year deal worth $375 million to be Fox Sports\u2019 lead NFL analyst. Imagine the insight the greatest golfer of the century could bring to the PGA Tour action \u2013 especially when Nick Faldo\u2019s your nearest competition.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, there\u2019s a perfect ending just waiting to be had.<\/p>\n<p>In July, the final major championship of the year, the British Open, will take place at the spiritual home of golf, St. Andrews. It is, by Woods\u2019s own admission, his favorite golf course in the world and a place where he\u2019s won twice before, in 2000 and 2005.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Imagine it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A summer Sunday in Scotland, galleries in their thousands lining the Old Course\u2019s 18<sup>th<\/sup> fairway and Woods pausing for one final photograph on top of the fabled Swilken Bridge, just as Jack Nicklaus, his only rival for the title of golf\u2019s GOAT, did in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>As endings go, it would be the most fitting of tributes.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
