\n It\u2019s getting to look somewhat like \u2026 football.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, new Giants head coach Joe Judge witnessed something for the first time: all 80 players on the field, at the same time, actually wearing helmets.<\/p>\n

This development \u2014 Phase 2 in the gradual ramp-up during the summer of a global pandemic \u2014 was as close to the real thing as Judge has mustered in training camp. The offense and defense were split up during practice, but at least the entire team was on the grass fields, together at last.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Phase 3 kicks in, as players will wear protective shells. On Monday, full pads are allowed for the first time. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been coaching football every day here,\u2019\u2019 Judge said. \u201cListen, if you like football, you truly love being on the field with the players. That\u2019s the most fun part. Being on the field with the players, interacting, getting to coach, getting to feel their energy on the field, that\u2019s what\u2019s fun. Getting them moving, until the end of practice with conditioning, it was just a great opportunity to be out there with the guys. They get a feel for us, we get a feel for them. You\u2019re out there coaching. They love football, we love football. Meetings are necessary to make sure we know what to do on the field, but practice is what the day is all about.\u201d<\/p>\n

At some point, Judge is going to have to see his team hit one another, as there are no preseason game<\/a>s this summer. That point comes Aug. 21, when the Giants will have the first of what will be weekly intrasquad scrimmages.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, for everyone kind of familiar with football, that will look a whole lot like every high school and college scrimmage in America,\u2019\u2019 Judge said. \u201cOffense on one sideline, defense on the other. We\u2019ll create situations on the field and let them play live football all the way through.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to get an opportunity to let our guys play at full speed. Let them go out there and experience the game and demonstrate they can operate when coaches aren\u2019t yelling in their ears and trying to make corrections. We just have to get them out there and let them play.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/hr>\n

Safety Jabrill Peppers said \u201cit definitely sucked\u2019\u2019 to miss the final five games of his first season with the Giants, but he is fully healed and participating in camp. Peppers, 24, went down with a transverse process injury, suffering a fracture in his back Nov. 24 in Chicago on his only kickoff return of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great process, I learned a lot through it,\u2019\u2019 Peppers said of his rehab. \u201cI\u2019m healthy now, it\u2019s a new year. I\u2019m just excited to be out there with the guys.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The Giants added a cornerback, bringing in Prince Smith, an undrafted rookie from New Hampshire who was signed by the Eagles in late April and waived last week.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
