The above stock image is unrelated to TikTok.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ma reportedly made the comments while visiting TikTok Shop in London \u2014 the first e-commerce initiative set up by the social media company outside of Asia.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok Shop allows brands and influencers to broadcast live on TikTok where they sell products through a clickable orange basket on the screen \u2014 not dissimilar to QVC shopping channel in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>FT reported that TikTok has launched an investigation into Ma\u2019s alleged comments.<\/p>\n<p>A TikTok spokesperson told The Post that workers were at times asked to work longer hours to \u201cmatch customer use patterns\u201d though the firm says it wants to make this the \u201cexception, rather than the norm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>London-based staffers said the burdensome workload at the company made them sick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe culture is really toxic,\u201d a former London-based team leader told FT. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRelationships there are built on fear, not co-operation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former team leader added: \u201cThey don\u2019t care about burnout because it is such a big company, they can just replace you. They coast on the TikTok brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Workers also complained they were forced to hit \u201cunrealistic targets.\u201d Those who didn\u2019t meet company expectations were singled out and reprimanded on the internal communications board, according to FT.<\/p>\n<p>A TikTok spokesperson told The Post: \u201cTikTok Shop has only been operating in the UK for a few months, and we\u2019re investing rapidly in expanding the resources, structures and process to support a positive employee experience.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
