The billionaire has sought proof from Twitter to back up its claim that spam bots account for less than 5% of its overall user base.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/elon-07-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Elon Musk Twitter account\" class=\"wp-image-22579366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/elon-07-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/elon-07-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/elon-07-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Twitter\u2019s data \u201cfirehose\u201d includes information on all tweets published on the platform.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Gett<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Musk\u2019s legal team has argued the data is essential for the billionaire\u2019s understanding of Twitter\u2019s revenue stream and overall business model.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Twitter\u2019s prospective owner, Mr.\u00a0Musk is clearly entitled to the requested data to enable him to prepare for transitioning Twitter\u2019s business to his ownership and to facilitate his transaction financing,\u201d Musk\u2019s attorney said in the SEC filing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo do both, he must have a complete and accurate understanding of the very core of Twitter\u2019s business model \u2014 its active user base,\u201d their letter added.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter will provide access to the \u201cfirehose\u201d despite purported skepticism from its executives that Musk will glean any new insights into its operations. An effort to reach Musk was not immediately successful.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter did not immediately return a request for further comment, but a company spokesperson provided a statement in response to the Washington Post\u2019s report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwitter has and will continue to cooperatively share information with Mr. Musk to consummate the transaction in accordance with the terms of the merger agreement,\u201d Twitter said in the statement. \u201cWe believe this agreement is in the best interest of all shareholders. We intend to close the transaction and enforce the merger agreement at the agreed price and terms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Twitter shares were flat in trading Wednesday afternoon after the report\u2019s publication.
