He researched a \u201cdistributed currency based on renewable energy credits and governments,\u201d but he concedes it was \u201csuper complicated.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Around the time, a friend shared a Bitcoin idea with Gordon-Brander, but like most people that first hear about Bitcoin \u2014 especially so early on \u2014 Gordon-Brander thought it\u2019s \u201cprobably not going to work.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He tried to get hold of some satoshis but his employer at the time, Bridgewater Associates\u2013 \u2014 founded by former Bitcoin basher turned Bitcoin bull, Ray Dalio\u00a0\u2014\u00a0\u201ccouldn\u2019t handle the compliance.\u201d Fast forward to 2015, the year the Ethereum network launched, and Gordon-Brander realized the cryptocurrency space had legs. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d been really intrigued by Bitcoin but the idea of a programmable currency \u2014 the idea of a world computer and an interoperable financial system, that blew me away,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>From 2015 onwards, Gordon-Brander assisted the launch of a crypto exchange and participated in the initial coin offering boom before joining Codex Labs. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: \u2018CBDCs are the natural evolution,\u2019 says HyperLedger director Barbosa<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although interest among investors in decentralized <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lications is swelling such as those keen to acquire their first Ether (ETH), there is still \u201ca lot of Bitcoin first\u201d interest from institutions. Finally, while the bear market price action drags on, there is hope for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAs a secular trend bet, digital assets still make a lot of sense.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ultimately, Gordon-Brander explains, there has been an awakening regarding crypto finance and the role it can play in solving real-world problems, from \u201cordinary people realizing that their money in the bank was no longer safe if their government doesn\u2019t like their politics,\u201d to tackling climate change: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe world is in a much better place with this <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> than it would be without it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His former boss at Bridgewater, Ray Dalio,\u00a0now recommends a small allocation to Bitcoin\u00a0and\u00a0the optimism that crypto brought to the WEF was hard to ignore.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
