The case never went to trial after Knight accepted a plea deal and was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in September 2018, but he\u2019s still facing a wrongful death lawsuit from Carter\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c200\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            window.catalyst.cmd.push(\"loadAds\", [[\"incontent\", \"contentUnit\u201c200\u201d\", \"section_post_inarticle\"]]);\n                        }\n                    <\/script><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>earing in court on Wednesday (June 8) to defend himself in the lawsuit, Knight discussed the events that led up to the incident, including his failed meeting with Dr. Dre at an office for the <em>Straight Outta Compton<\/em> movie. According to <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/suge-knight-testifies-dr-dre-tams-straight-outta-compton-1364480\/\">Rolling Stone,<\/a><\/em> Knight claimed he wasn\u2019t trying to confront Dre, despite testifying that police told him Dre hired the man who shot him seven times at Chris Brown\u2019s pre-VMA party in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dre previously denied the allegation when it was made in a civil court cross-complaint in 2016, with Dre\u2019s lawyer stating at the time, \u201cGiven that Dre has had zero interaction with Suge since leaving Death Row Records in 1996, we hope that Suge\u2019s lawyer has lots of malicious prosecution insurance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But on Wednesday, Suge Knight denied his involvement with the lawyer who filed the cross-complaint. He claimed police told him about an alleged murder-for-hire contract from Dre, but he didn\u2019t believe the allegation. Shortly before Carter\u2019s death, Knight said he ended up at the <em>Straight Outta Compton<\/em> office when someone told him to \u201ccome through\u201d to discuss a \u201csituation\u201d with Dre.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c300\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            window.catalyst.cmd.push(\"loadAds\", [[\"incontent\", \"contentUnit\u201c300\u201d\", \"section_post_inarticle\"]]);\n                        }\n                    <\/script><br \/>\n\u201cI was told about that,\u201d Knight said about the alleged contract. \u201cPeople showed me checks, cancelled checks. Dr. Dre \u2014 we\u2019ve been really good friends for years. Matter of fact, I know his kids, he knows my kids. And I was told that he had paid some guys to harm me. I didn\u2019t believe it because authorities do lie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I went up there \u2026 I was going to talk to him and say, \u2018Hey man, I\u2019m not going to react to what authorities say about you having something to do with me getting shot. I just want to make you aware they are saying this, putting it out there.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=myajdjTmOVE\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=myajdjTmOVE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Knight testified he was at the office to inform Dre about what police were telling him, rather than raising issues about being portrayed as a \u201cbodyguard\u201d in <em>Straight Outta Compton<\/em> or to demand money for using his name and likeness, but it may have come up.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed he heard Dr. Dre and Ice Cube were too \u201cbusy\u201d for a meeting, but he wasn\u2019t concerned due to having plans with his 5-year-old son. But when he was leaving the area, he was then told, \u201cHey, Cube wants you to come (back) because we\u2019ve been trying to catch you to take care of you.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\" inserted=\"shortcode\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c400\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n                        if(isMobile){\n                            window.catalyst.cmd.push(\"loadAds\", [[\"incontent\", \"contentUnit\u201c400\u201d\", \"section_post_inarticle\"]]);\n                        }\n                    <\/script><br \/>\nSuge Knight claimed things took a turn when he asked about Dre and said he didn\u2019t want to wait around all day. He said gang member Cle \u201cBone\u201d Sloan, who was working security for <em>Straight Outta Compton,<\/em> was offended by a joke and became \u201caggressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knight then brought up someone trying to put something on his windshield, which caused his lawyer to ask, \u201cWere you ever served with a restraining order that Dr. Dre allegedly had on you?\u201d Knight responded, \u201cNo, never.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carter\u2019s wife and daughter filed the wrongful death lawsuit in June 2015 and are seeking more than $10 million in damages.
