“#Joe Kelly blasts \u2018snitching\u2019 Astros players for sign-stealing fallout<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n In his first interview since getting suspended eight game<\/a>s for a July 28 incident with the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly said that his animosity toward the Astros stems more from how they handled the sign-stealing investigation than the actual cheating itself.<\/p>\n

Speaking on \u201cThe Big Swing,\u201d a podcast hosted by his Dodgers teammate Ross Strip<\/a>ling, Kelly explained that he felt like the Astros players \u2014 who were given immunity in exchange for cooperation with the investigation \u2014 allowed higher-ups like manager AJ Hinch and general<\/a> manager Jeff Luhnow to take the fall for their wrongdoing. Both Hinch and Luhnow were fired.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people who took the fall for what happ<\/a>ened is nonsense,\u201d Kelly said in an interview taped before his appealed suspension was reduced to five games. \u201cYes, everyone is involved. But the way that (sign-stealing system) was run over there was not from coaching staff. \u2026 They\u2019re not the head boss in charge of that thing. It\u2019s the players. So now the players get the immunity, and all they do is go snitch like a little b\u2014h, and they don\u2019t have to get fined, they don\u2019t have to lose games.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you take someone\u2019s livelihood \u2026 to save your own ass, that\u2019s what I don\u2019t like,\u201d Kelly added. \u201cCheating? They cheated. Everyone knows they\u2019re cheaters. They know they\u2019re cheaters. It\u2019s over. That\u2019s done with. But now they mess it up by ruining other people\u2019s lives, so they f\u2014ed it up twice. \u2026 When you taint someone\u2019s name to save your own name, this is one of the worst things that you could probably do. \u2026 That really friggin\u2019 bugs me. I think I\u2019ll be irritated forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelly, 32, threw a ball near the head of Astros third basemen Alex Bregman, then taunted shortstop Carlos Correa during the Dodgers\u2019 5-2 win in Houston. The incident caused a bench-clearing brawl, but Kelly successfully appealed for a reduced suspension.<\/p>\n

Kelly mentioned how fond he is of Alex Cora, who was let go from his job as manager of the Red Sox for his involvement in sign-stealing as the Astros\u2019 bench coach in 2017. Kelly played for Cora on the 2018 World Series<\/a> champion Red Sox.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe they have called AC (Cora) and said, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m sorry.\u2019 Or called Luhnow and said, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m sorry.\u2019 Or called Hinch, and (Carlos) Beltran,\u201d Kelly said. \u201c\u2026 If they had said, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m super scared, I didn\u2019t know what to do, I didn\u2019t want to lose money, I had to rat.\u2019 \u2026 Grow a pair of balls and say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelly said he thought his initial suspension of eight games was \u201ccrazy,\u201d considering all that went on on the field. He also mentioned that he didn\u2019t want to talk to Astros players, \u201cbecause they\u2019re not respectable men.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apparently, the league\u2019s reasoning was that he incited the Astros out of their dugout with his actions and gesture. Kelly said it was \u201ccompletely bulls\u2013t.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI social<\/a>ly distanced. I walked away,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t get close, and I followed all the guidelines of the CDC, and people on the other side (the Astros) didn\u2019t. \u2026 They walked out of their dugout, walked toward us. Carlos Correa f\u2014ing spit at our team. I don\u2019t know if it was (at) me. He spit out of his mouth. \u2026 This guy walks over to our dugout and then spits, while I follow all the rules, and I get eight games.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have a manager (Dusty Baker) on their side, verbatim, yelling at me, \u2018Get your little skinny ass on the mound.\u2019 So my cuss words get eight games, and his cuss words get zero? That makes complete sense, right? Welcome to planet Earth. A debacle.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Kelly\u2019s infamous \u201cboo-hoo face\u201d that he made at Correa after striking him out, Kelly told Stripling that when he complains to his wife, Ashley Parks, she\u2019ll make that face at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Carlos was tripping back at me,\u201d he said, \u201cthe boo-hoo face felt right, because it just sounded like he was complaining. I was like, \u2018Ohhhh, boo-hoo.\u2019 For me, it sounded like a bunch of whining, and I know exactly what my wife feels like.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just felt right in the moment. It was spur of the moment; it\u2019s not like you game-plan for that kind of thing. \u2026 It was my interpretation of him acting like a child at that point, and I wanted to give him a little child\u2019s face.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
