class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>NASA recently revealed satellite images of an underwater volcano dubbed the \u201cSharkcano\u201d after it erupted in the South Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cSharkcano\u201d eruption drew a lot of attention due to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/tech\/5418745\/mutant-sharks-living-in-sharkcano-revealed\/\">the mutant sharks<\/a>\u00a0said to be living inside but there are plenty of other underwater volcanoes that scientists are hunting for.<\/p>\n<p>Although the \u201cSharkcano\u201d was only thought to be deadly for any marine life nearby the eruption, some underwater volcanoes pose a much greater risk.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why scientists have to hunt and seek them out.<\/p>\n<p>Krakatoa\u00a0is one of the most famous underwater volcanoes and it was said to kill tens of thousands of people with an eruption in 1883.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, an underwater volcano called the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/tech\/5422463\/huge-underwater-volcano-explosion-tonga-new-crater\/\">Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha\u2019apai\u00a0volcano<\/a>\u00a0left at least 6 people dead and others injured and missing after its eruption led to a tsunami earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Hunga Tonga eruption negatively impacted nearly 100,000 people and temporality left them cut off from the rest of the world after undersea communication cables were severed in the blast.<\/p>\n<p>This is why volcanologists are on the hunt for more underwater volcanoes so that the world can be prepared if they erupt.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/future\/article\/20220607-the-detectives-hunting-for-underwater-volcanos\">the BBC<\/a>, New Zealand\u2019s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa) launched a voyage to investigate the Hunga Tonga site.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img class=\"credit\">NASA<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Governments around the world are also said to have investigative teams searching for other dangerous underwater volcanoes.<\/p>\n<p>The US even has a Volcano Disaster Assistance Program.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC report also mentions work by researchers from the Ecole Normale\u00a0Sup\u00e9rieure in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Researcher Javier Escartin told the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> outlet: \u201cPeople are interested in volcanoes because they are a risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, deep volcanoes do not pose much danger; more dangerous are those near the sea surface or that emerge above it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cImagine an explosion the scale of Tonga in the Mediterranean or Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe death and destruction, the damage to the economy and transportation systems \u2026 but of course we can\u2019t study the volcanoes if we don\u2019t know where they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hunting for underwater volcanoes isn\u2019t an easy task and involves things like special underwater sound monitoring that can detect explosions.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, scientists sent cameras down to the Kavachi volcano in the Solomon Islands, also known as the Sharkcano, to study inside.<\/p>\n<p>This is how they spotted two species of shark described as \u201cmutants\u201d as they were able to survive in the acidic conditions that should have killed them.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers also use techniques like m<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" New Zealand\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/niwa.co.nz\/news\/tonga-eruption-discoveries-defy-expectations\">National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research<\/a> recently did this with the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha\u2019apai.<\/p>\n<p>They found the volcano is now 2.5 miles wide and drops 2,789 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Before the huge explosion, it only dropped 492 feet.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a staggering 2,297 feet difference.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the volcano is not expected to have a similar eruption for over 100 years.<\/p>\n<p><em>This story originally
