It lets you bark out voice commands just by pressing and holding a Microphone button, which is handily located right under the arrow keys. (Older Voice Remote models use a magnifying glass button instead of a microphone button.)<\/p>\n<p>The more expensive <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Roku-Rechargeable-controls-listening-hands-free\/dp\/B0916RDGMD?tag=reviewgeek-20\">Voice Remote Pro<\/a> takes things a step further. It costs $30, but it lets you use voice commands without pressing any buttons\u2014great for when your remote is sitting across the room or inside the couch. That\u2019s a huge upgrade from the unreliable, inaccurate IR sensor in the standard Roku remote. (I should also point out that the Voice Remote has volume buttons. Roku skimps out on these buttons with its budget streaming sticks.)<\/p>\n<p>Because the Voice Remote and Voice Remote Pro connect to your Roku over Wi-Fi, they have a different setup process than the standard Roku remote. Still, this pairing process\u00a0<em>usually<\/em> kicks off automatically.<\/p>\n<p>To manually start the pairing process, press and hold the small pairing button under your Voice Remote\u2019s battery cover. But there\u2019s a ton of stuff you can do with a Voice Remote, so let\u2019s list it all in bulleted form:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Select Highlighted Content<\/strong>: If your on-screen cursor is hovering over a show, movie, option, or streaming profile, say \u201cokay\u201d to select it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cancel Commands<\/strong>: Say \u201cno,\u201d \u201cstop,\u201d or \u201cwrong\u201d to cancel a misheard voice command.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Control Playback<\/strong>: Tell Roku to fast-forward or rewind through content, pause or play, and even turn the TV off with a timer. (\u201cRewind\u201d or \u201cturn off the TV in an hour.\u201d)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Voice Search<\/strong>: Ask Roku to find a movie or list all episodes of your favorite TV series. You can also ask Roku to find all the films involving a certain actor, or even request content by genre. (\u201cFind every\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> movie\u201d or \u201cshow me kids TV shows.\u201d)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Closed Captions<\/strong>: Activate closed captions with a simple \u201cshow closed captions\u201d command, or ask Roku to open your closed captions settings and fine-tune everything for specific situations, like automatically enabling captions when muting audio.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Open Apps or Channels<\/strong>: Tell Roku to \u201copen Netflix\u201d or \u201cplay Pandora\u201d to quickly open apps or channels. You can also ask Roku to play specific artists, like or dislike a song, or identify a song.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Control Music Playback<\/strong>: Roku lets you control music playback with commands like \u201cpause,\u201d \u201cshuffle,\u201d and \u201cloop.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Find Your Remote<\/strong>: Open the Roku app and ask it to find your lost remote.
