Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le\u00a0and\u00a0Google\u2019s mobile browsers, as well as the iPhone maker\u2019s restrictions on cloud gaming through its app store.<\/p>\n<p>The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on Friday it was also taking enforcement action against Alphabet\u2019s\u00a0Google\u00a0over its app store payment practices.<\/p>\n<p>It said the two tech giants had an \u201ceffective duopoly\u201d on mobile ecosystems that gave them a stranglehold on operating systems, app stores and web browsers on mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to how people use mobile phones,\u00a0Apple\u00a0and\u00a0Google\u00a0hold all the cards,\u201d CMA Chief Executive Andrea Coscelli said following the publication of a report on mobile ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs good as many of their services and products are, their strong grip on mobile ecosystems allows them to shut out competitors, holding back the British tech sector and limiting choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It said 97% of all mobile web browsing in Britain last year was powered by either\u00a0Apple\u2019s or\u00a0Google\u2019s browser engine, and in addition,\u00a0Apple\u00a0banned alternatives to its own browser on iPhone.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA said it was concerned this severely limited the potential for rival browsers to differentiate themselves from\u00a0Apple\u2019s Safari, for example on features such as speed and functionality.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Apple\u00a0said in a statement it had \u201ccreated a safe and trusted experience users love and a great business opportunity for developers\u201d through its ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe respectfully disagree with a number of conclusions reached in the report, which discount our investments in innovation, privacy and user performance \u2014 all of which contribute to why users love iPhone and iPad and create a level playing field for small developers to compete on a trusted platform,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to engage constructively with the CMA to explain how our approach promotes competition and choice, while ensuring consumers\u2019 privacy and security are always protected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google\u00a0said smartphones using its Android operating system offered people and businesses more choice than any other mobile platform, and its\u00a0Google\u00a0Play app store has been the launchpad for millions of apps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe regularly review how we can best support developers and have reacted quickly to CMA feedback in the past,\u201d a\u00a0Google\u00a0spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will review the report and continue to engage with the CMA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The regulator said it was also worried about\u00a0Apple\u00a0blocking the emergence of cloud gaming services, which allow high-quality <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s to be streamed rather than individually downloaded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy preventing this sector from growing,\u00a0Apple\u00a0risks causing mobile users to miss out on the full benefits of cloud gaming,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA said its proposed investigation would further assess its concerns and could result in legally binding orders requiring changes to be made to\u00a0Apple\u2019s and\u00a0Google\u2019s practices.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation on the proposed market investigation reference will close on July 22.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
