Case in point: <em>9-1-1: Lone Star<\/em> celebrated same-sex couple Tyler \u201cTK\u201d Strand (Ronen Rubenstein) and Carlos Reyes (Rafael Silva) getting engaged when the paramedic proposed to the policeman in the Season 3 finale. Needless to say, fans can\u2019t wait for the action drama to return midseason 2023 on Fox.<\/p>\n<p>TV Insider recently caught up with Silva and Rubenstein at the second annual queer television festival The OutFronts in Hollywood to chat with the actors about Tarlos\u2019 engagement and when viewers can expect to hear literal wedding bells.<\/p>\n<p>For starters, Rubenstein says the whole reason \u201cTarlos\u201d even exists is because of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> creator Ryan Murphy. \u201cHe had a major transgender story on <em>Nip\/Tuck<\/em> nearly 20 years ago,\u201d the actor says, referring to Famke Janssen\u2019s trans character Ava Moore. \u201cHe\u2019s the truest trailblazer for all of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Rubenstein and Silva are aware of the responsibility that comes with telling a same-sex love story on network television. \u201cI can only be grateful to be a part of it and to represent it honestly,\u201d Silva shares.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most common thing I hear from people is \u2018thank you,\u2019\u201d says Rubenstein. \u201cPeople thank me for what I do on and offscreen. They\u2019ve thanked me for helping save their life, which is a lot to hear and it\u2019s beautiful. We understand the responsibility of playing these characters \u2014 it\u2019s so much more than playing a role on TV. So much more. I make sure I go into work every single day reminding myself of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tarlos fans dissected the proposal scene and im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely noticed that at one point Carlos referred to TK as \u201cTyler,\u201d his birth name, which was pretty much used only by his late mother Gwyn (Lisa Edelstein). \u201cI don\u2019t even know if I realized [Rafael did that] to be honest,\u201d Rubenstein shares. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until later when people started bringing it up that I did. If anyone has \u2018earned\u2019 the right to call TK \u2018Tyler\u2019 it\u2019s his mom, his dad [Owen Strand, played by Rob Lowe], and Carlos.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1046963\" style=\"width: 2038px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1046963\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1046963\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos.jpg\" alt=\"Rafael Silva as Carlos, Ronen Rubinstein as T.K. in 9-1-1 Lone Star\" width=\"2028\" height=\"1141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos.jpg 2028w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos-450x253.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos-1014x570.jpg 1014w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos-1420x798.jpg 1420w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos-770x433.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/911-lone-star-season-3-finale-tarlos-570x321.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2028px) 100vw, 2028px\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-1046963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jordin Althaus\/FOX<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Having someone special in your life who calls you something very few do is \u201ctiny,\u201d Rubenstein says, hastening to add, \u201cbut it\u2019s huge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silva says that calling TK \u2018Tyler\u2019 wasn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ed. \u201cI chose to say it,\u201d he reveals. \u201cThere are very few people who know TK as \u2018Tyler.\u2019 Carlos is one of those people. I wanted Carlos to be the closest person to TK. Making that choice was very intentional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silva adds that the script supervisor is both a good friend of his and was on top of her job by pointing out to the actor during filming that the printed word was \u201cTK.\u201d But after episode director Bradley Buecker confabbed with showrunner Tim Minear, the decision was made to keep \u2018Tyler.\u2019 \u201cIt\u2019s my job to know my character and add to the script if needed,\u201d Silva says.<\/p>\n<p>The actors believe the show won\u2019t return to production until the fall so it\u2019s anybody\u2019s guess as to when the wedding will take place. \u201cI\u2019m sure the fans would love to have it in Episode 1, Season 4,\u201d Rubenstein says with a smile. \u201cI think the wedding will come at a good time. We\u2019ll have to see when we \u2018earn\u2019 the wedding. I\u2019d like to see the journey of Tarlos as an engaged couple instead of rushing [into] marriage, which I don\u2019t think they will. They\u2019ve given us a beautiful storyline with room to breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubenstein\u2019s TV fianc\u00e9 agrees. \u201cThe preparation to get married is a whole journey,\u201d Silva points out. \u201cPreparing the wedding ceremony [is] a big thing. Emotionally and mentally, these two are choosing to devote themselves to each other as their individual selves, giving up things that they may not want to in order to become a good partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While fans who idolize couples sometimes want to see them existing in a problem-free world, conflict is, of course, the essence of drama. \u201cAll relationships are complicated,\u201d Rubenstein says. \u201cI\u2019m glad we\u2019re keeping it based in reality.
