He specifically shouted out the rapper\u2019s now-legendary verse on his own 1998 track <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sb-gh6hJr30\">\u201cJohn Blaze.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the most respectful way it\u2019s kinda like I set up Nas on that record,\u201d Joe recalled. \u201cBecause Pun really wanted to get on a record with Nas\u2026Nas did the record one million percent but there was artists, not Nas, but there was artists that was really scared to jump on records with Pun. So we almost had to like gas guys like, \u2018Yo it\u2019s my record\u2019 and then throw Pun on it. The story is you know he waited for Cannabis about 30 to 100 sessions and he never walked in the door to do the song with Pun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Angie then asked for Joe to confirm that he had asked Nas to hop on \u201cJohn Blaze,\u201d and didn\u2019t tell him Pun was going to also be on the track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah he didn\u2019t know,\u201d Joe said. \u201c[Nas] came. He came twice and he rocked and he did it and then Pun came on there\u2026 and we had to do that a lot with Pun. Like I had to get artists on his shit that didn\u2019t know he was on the shit. Not saying nothing about Nas! I don\u2019t want nobody misconstruing this in no way. He was doing a song for me. Yes, he\u2019s on everybody\u2019s lists and this is not referring to Nas in no way but that\u2019s how we did that song, and that\u2019s how you had to do a lot of songs with Pun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pun\u2019s talent was undeniable all the way up to his death in 2000, and he was always ready to hop on a track with anybody. Remy Ma revealed to Fat Joe on his Instagram Live show in 2020 that right before his death Eminem was firmly in his crosshairs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo at the time, that\u2019s when [the posse cuts] \u2018John Blaze\u2019 was out and \u2018Banned From TV\u2019 \u2013 he felt like all those records, he had to watch for that muthafucka Jadakiss \u2019cause he gon\u2019 do what he do,\u201d Remy told Joe. \u201cBut I can honestly say that he was waiting for Eminem. That was his thing. He was like, \u2018I can\u2019t wait to get on a track with him.\u2019 That was his goal. Out of his lips, he told me he cannot wait for the song to come with him and Eminem.
