Just two months after the Bay Area artist dropped\u00a0<em>These Things H<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en Too<\/em> in 2021, the sequel to his 2014 platinum effort <em>These Things Happen,<\/em> his mother passed away. She was G\u2019s biggest supporter, and the lyricist penned a vulnerable eulogy to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/g_eazy\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=81097193-a415-42c2-86f7-582452a644f5\">commemorate her on Instagram.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shock still won\u2019t let me accept the feeling that I\u2019ll never get to hug you in person again,\u201d he wrote. \u201cMy queen, my hero, my everything\u2026my mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He followed up this tribute with a single titled \u201cAngel,\u201d a measured, guitar-ladden ballad far different from any of the snappy commercial rap beats on<em> These Things Happen Too.<\/em> When <em>HipHopDX<\/em> spoke to G, he was in Boston, taking in the architecture of neighboring Cambridge and gearing up to head to a Celtics <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>. \u201cAngel\u201d wasn\u2019t part of any roll-out, he made it just to celebrate his mother. He\u2019s actually taking a well-deserved break from music, giving himself space to relax and enjoy the spoils of a long career.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"G-Eazy - Angel (Official Visualizer)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ejdJAwSZixM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve just been allowing myself the time I\u2019ve felt I needed to kinda reset and kinda figure out where I wanna go, and allow myself time to grieve,\u201d G-Eazy said. \u201cFor the better part of the last decade I never really took a break, it was always just go go go, so I think it\u2019s important every now and then to slow down and evaluate what it is you wanna do with intention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As G-Eazy\u2019s career has progressed, his newer projects have shifted away from the commercial rap that has long been his calling card, instead they\u2019ve aimed to reflect the state of mind of Gerald Gillum the man. On 2020\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9xLIR2Udijc\"><em>Everything\u2019s Strange Here,<\/em><\/a> the rapper shed his quippy lyricism for woozy, translucent alt-rock. It was a project birthed out of the stresses of quarantine and out of unease for the future. As G-Eazy experiences yet another life-altering event, he discusses how it\u2019s changed his sound, if at all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a difficult six months to say the least since losing her,\u201d G-Eazy said. \u201cMe and my mom were so extremely close, and she was an art professor so I would share a lot of my work and a lot of my creative thoughts with her whenever I was working on new material, and she would give me her feedback from an outside perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he felt her passing had actually hindered his creativity he responded sincerely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like, there\u2019s this gaping,\u201d G-Eazy stops himself, searching for the words. \u201cThere\u2019s a void. There\u2019s this missing part of me that\u2019s been difficult to live with and adjust to, but ultimately grieving can be a difficult process and it\u2019s not always a linear one, but I\u2019m finding ways to honor her in the music and to keep her spirit with me at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The platinum rapper has since pivoted his attention to cryptocurrency, launching an NFT collection with esteemed artist and graphic designer <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/dzanarabbaszade\/?hl=en\">Dzanar Abbas-Zade,<\/a> who had previously designed visual work for Akon, Chris Brown and other major pop stars. The collection, dubbed <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/music.oneof.com\/drops\/f8f5e4d9-fcae-42e5-8056-d53bb630198f\/details\">\u201cThe Geralds,\u201d<\/a> focuses on the multiple sides of the rapper, and was born out of wide-eyed curiosity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been curious about this space, and I\u2019ve been eager to learn as much as I can,\u201d G-Eazy said. \u201cI wanted to get involved and just kind of jump into this world so I could learn more and begin to see what works and what doesn\u2019t and how it ultimately can connect me with my audience and how we can grow together. I wanted to target my die-hard fans with this project and allow them to peek into the different sides of who I am as a person. For those who\u2019ve followed my career for a long time or listened to the deep cuts, they would probably know these things, but the rest of the world doesn\u2019t. So I just wanted to show that this is who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>G-Eazy is new to the crypto space and admits that getting involved in NFT\u2019s was confusing at times. He didn\u2019t take to it as naturally as other artists like\u00a0Money Man.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s definitely confusing at times,\u201d he said. \u201cI think NFT as a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> is something that we\u2019re still figuring out how to utilize and how to apply it and how it can work for us. It\u2019s just one of those things that we\u2019re all learning together at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t get it twisted, G-Eazy isn\u2019t becoming a crypto guru. He says he\u2019s still hitting the studio every night but in terms of a new record, he said he\u2019s allowing it to show itself naturally. His circle has been very understanding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people encouraged me to be kind to myself and to slow down and take my time and not feel rushed back into work,\u201d G-Eazy said. \u201cSo I just wanted to allow myself that opportunity. I\u2019ve just been taking my time with this next record, figuring out what I wanna say and where I wanna go creatively and figure out what feels like the right move for me next, but I stay active in my studio.
