I love their eyes. Can we make E.T.\u2019s eyes as frivolous and also wizened and as sad as those three icons?\u2019 \u201d Spielberg says in the featurette, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0251820\/\">\u201cThe Making of \u2018E.T. Rambaldi, who had previously worked with Spielberg on the aliens in \u201cClose Encounters of the Third Kind,\u201d won an Academy Award for his work on \u201cE.T.\u201d It was his third Oscar, following wins for his work on Ridley Scott\u2019s \u201cAlien\u201d and John Guillermin\u2019s 1976 remake of \u201cKing Kong.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>But \u201cE.T.\u201d was the Italy native\u2019s crowning creation. Upon Rambaldi\u2019s death in 2012 at age 86, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/08\/11\/movies\/carlo-rambaldi-movie-maestro-of-special-effects-dies-at-86.html?\">Spielberg called him<\/a> \u201cE.T.\u2019s Geppetto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This month marks the 40th anniversary of Spielberg\u2019s childhood classic.
