“#Twitter<\/a> to expand crackdown on mail-in ballot misinformation<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Twitter this week said that it will expand its crackdown on on misinformation surrounding the election and mail-in voting.<\/p>\n

The social network \u2014 which made waves in May when it added a fact-check label to a tweet from President Trump claiming that mail-in ballots are \u201csubstantially fraudulent\u201d \u2014 will also increase its efforts on getting users registered for mail-in and early voting, according to Politico.<\/p>\n

Twitter did not go into detail about what the new policies might look like, but said they will be focused on \u201cempowering every eligible person to register and vote through partnerships, tools and new policies that emphasize accurate information about all available options to vote, including by mail and early voting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTwitter is working hard to increase informed participation in democratic processes around the world,\u201d Jessica Herrera-Flanican, Twitter\u2019s VP for public policy said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Jack Dorsey, the company\u2019s CEO, said in an app<\/a>earance on \u201cThe Daily\u201d podcast last week that Twitter will \u201ccontinue to evolve our policy to protect the integrity of the conversation around elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

That includes, he said, suspending any accounts that might engage in \u201cparticular egregious aspects of violations of the terms of service,\u201d even if it belongs to the President of the United States.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t hesitate to take action on the accounts and use every tool that we have together with that,\u201d Dorsey said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIndependent of the US president or any leader around the world, we will take action if we feel it\u2019s necessary.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
