That includes the electric grid handling the growing demand or having enough charging stations where we drive. Thankfully, in the future, we could have roads with wireless charging built-in, and our cars can charge as we drive.<\/p>\n<p>Stellantis, the company behind popular brands including\u00a0Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citro\u00ebn, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, and many others, has been working on a new inductive charging road system of the future <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stellantis.com\/en\/news\/press-releases\/2021\/december\/arena-del-futuro-innovative-dynamic-induction-charging-becomes-a-reality\">since last year<\/a> and testing it on a Fiat 500 EV.<\/p>\n<p>Inductive charging inside roads and highways isn\u2019t a new idea, and we\u2019ve seen researchers create wireless charging roads, but Stellantis is taking things a step further. The company made a circular test track with inductive charging coils built into the street in partnership with a\u00a0state-funded infrastructure project connecting several Italian cities.<\/p>\n<p>Stellantis is calling it <em>Arena del Futuro<\/em>, which means \u201cArena of the Future\u201d in Italian, and the results are quite impressive so far. Here\u2019s a video giving you an idea of what this system looks like.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"mFyJg6f9v84\" params=\"start=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/mFyJg6f9v84\/hqdefault.jpg');\">\n<button type=\"button\" class=\"lty-playbtn\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"lyt-visually-hidden\">Play Video<\/span><br \/>\n<\/button>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n<p>The \u201cdynamic wireless power transfer\u201d project\u201d allows cars to drive on the outside of a 2-lane track, and that outer lane has wireless charging under the asphalt. While <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ing at highway speeds, the test EVs don\u2019t lose any battery power.<\/p>\n<p>The test facility, located in Chiari, Italy, uses a system of coils to power cars, buses,\u00a0and trucks\u00a0with a power receiver equipped to the bottom. That energy goes directly from the road to the electric motors, allowing them to drive without running the battery down.<\/p>\n<p>If Stellantis can offer this\u00a0\u201ccutting-edge freedom of mobility\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> to more roads, EVs of the future won\u2019t need heavy battery cells to navigate around towns.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what Anne-Lise Richard, Head of the Global e-Mobility Unit at Stellantis,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stellantis.com\/en\/news\/press-releases\/2022\/june\/arena-del-futuro-demonstrates-capability-of-dynamic-inductive-recharging-technology-for-electric-vehicles\">had to say<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cOur long-term strategic plan, Dare Forward 2030, is based on the premise of bringing \u2018cutting-edge freedom of mobility to all and this project is the very essence of where we\u2019re headed as a company.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Working with this incredible group of partners, we have proven that inductive recharging technology can power our electrified future. These joint projects are exciting steps as we work to achieve longer battery lifespan, lower range anxiety, greater energy efficiency, smaller battery size, outstanding performance, and lower weight and cost.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The company says this new project can reduce much of the power loss from typical energy distribution processes, doesn\u2019t need to convert DC power into AC power for charging the battery, and it uses thinner aluminum coils to complete the task compared to typical big copper wires.
