Now it costs $35,\u201d the source kvetched. \u201cI can\u2019t do that every day.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Workers say they have become emboldened over the issue since last month, when a Goldman Sachs employee was shot and killed on the subway in Brooklyn by a crazed gunman. The incident happened just days after Mayor Eric Adams urged CEOs like JPMorgan Chase\u2019s Jamie Dimon and Goldman Sachs\u2019 David Solomon to take the subway to work in a bid to get the city\u2019s economy humming again.<\/p>\n<p>It also came just weeks after Goldman had slashed a slew of pandemic-era perks that included free Ubers\u00a0to and from headquarters\u00a0in Lower Manhattan. Nevertheless, many executives see this as just one more excuse employees are using to keep pandemic-era remote working privileges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hierarchy of excuses is neverending. First it was COVID, then it was subway crime and now its high Uber prices,\u201d one senior executive at a Manhattan-based tech company told On The Money. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast time I checked we still have buses, yellow cabs and Citi Bikes. What\u2019s next? Blaming long lines at the office buildings\u2019 Starbucks for not coming in?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Other companies \u2014 particularly those that are well-capitalized \u2014 remain sympathetic to the plight of the rank-and file.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to find solutions so people feel comfortable coming into the office,\u201d a worker at a prominent hedge fund in Manhattan told On The Money. In a pinch, she says she\u2019ll typically choose the subway over a car service even though she feels \u201cunsafe\u201d on public transit.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s too dangerous to take the subway but it\u2019s too expensive to Uber,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen I\u2019m running late I resolve to miss half a meeting because it isn\u2019t worth the $65 to Uber.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Still, some remote workers concede that citing the cost of an Uber as a reason to stay home looks a bit thin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think people will make any excuse not to go back to the office,\u201d one millennial who lives in Brooklyn and works at a healthcare startup told On The Money. \u201cBut I think in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, people don\u2019t want to commute anymore \u2026 definitely with the recent shootings and stabbings going on.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
