He currently work at the public relations firm FGS Global.<\/p>\n<p>Guthrie, the co-host of the network\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/06\/15\/amber-heard-still-loves-ex-johnny-depp-has-no-ill-will\/?_ga=2.3508469.472421161.1655379067-1212912648.1634415321\">sat down with Heard<\/a> for a one-hour Dateline special that will air on Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern time. As a result, she should not have interviewed the attorneys or Heard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs. Guthrie was transparent by letting viewers know her husband worked for the Depp legal team before her interview aired on the Today show,\u201d Rebecca Aguilar, the president of the Society of Professional Journalists, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/savannah-guthrie-amber-heard-interview-conflict-interest-husband-depp-lawyers-2022-6\">told Insider<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill, she could have avoided becoming part of the story by allowing another NBC anchor to interview the Depp team and later with Ms. Amber Heard. Ms. Guthrie should be far away from this story to show her viewers that she is fair, transparent, and ethical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Erik Wemple, a media critic for The Washington Post, wrote that Guthrie has a \u201cvery significant conflict of interest\u201d in light of her husband\u2019s involvement with Depp\u2019s attorneys.<\/p>\n<p>The hint that Guthrie could benefit financially \u2014 albeit indirectly \u2014 from her husband\u2019s ties to Depp disqualifies her from reporting on the topic, according to Wemple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a financial stake,\u201d Wemple said. \u201cAnd that is the most fair and narrow and unpuncturable conflict of interest, if it affects your family finances in some way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wemple added that the fact that Guthrie had to make a disclosure in the first place indicates that NBC knew the arrangement was somewhat problematic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is interviewing lawyers who presumably benefited from her husband\u2019s consulting.
