Not for these sneaky sun-worshippers. <\/p>\n<p>People are taking off work in the days around the transition from spring to summer, which officially takes place this year on Tuesday, June 21, at 5:13 a.m. Still struggling with the post-pandemic lockdown return to office, they\u2019re trying to maximize their daylight hours away from their desks. (In the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice is the longest day of the year.) <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all in the spirit of what Icelandic people call<em>\u00a0s\u00f3larfr\u00ed <\/em>or a \u201csun\u00a0holiday.\u201d The idea is to celebrate nice weather by kicking off work and making plans to soak in the sunshine. He\u2019s going to lay in a hammock for hours on end, sipping a cocktail and reading \u201cMedium Raw,\u201d the Anthony Bourdain nonfiction book that\u2019s been sitting unopened on his bookshelf. She said it was back in junior high that she started to appreciate the idea of making the most of good weather, when she had a teacher who held class outside on sunny days.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that is when I started to fall in love with being outside. It\u2019s very Zen,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She believes companies should take this approach, too, letting employees work from the outdoors in service of their mental health. (Some corporations are actually giving this strategy a shot, with Forbes <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jenamcgregor\/2022\/05\/20\/summer-is-here-and-more-bosses-are-making-vacations-mandatory\">reporting that Goldman Sachs is imposing mandatory vacation<\/a> on workers to help them avoid burnout.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all need to be enjoying the sun whenever possible, because it\u2019s good for you,\u201d she said. \u201cWe need to start considering wellness as a basic necessity instead of focusing on it only when it\u2019s needed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For Jason Burtt, he\u2019s taking his first solstice off this year in search of a spiritual experience.<\/p>\n<p>The 46-year-old Verizon data center engineer has recently gotten into astrology and rock counting. \u201cIn the past few years, I\u2019ve adopted what I would call a\u00a0New\u00a0Age thought process,\u201d he said. He\u2019s also started reading up on early civilizations, and their connection with nature. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright has-text-align-left\">\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be full leisure. My only goal is to do nothing and get a bunch of sun.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><cite>Craig Fairley<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Through his research, he\u2019s come to believe that the summer solstice is a day for rebirth. \u201cI see it as kind of an official checkpoint during the year,\u201d said Burtt, who lives in Wadsworth, Ohio. \u201cIt\u2019s a change of a season, and it\u2019s a chance to take stock of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But for West Palm Beach, Florida, couple Catie Heim and Andrew Lane, their sun holidays plans are a lot less lofty.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-one-year-old Heim, who owns a fashion trade show company, told The Post that she and husband Lane, 30, play hooky periodically to splash around in their pool. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really just roughhouse \u2014 that is the best word to describe it,\u201d Heim said, adding that she and her husband moved south from Washington, DC, last February, specifically because they craved more sun. \u201cWe are essentially children. I try to jump on his back, and he tries to throw me off.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Because she\u2019s self-employed, she doesn\u2019t have to justify the days off to anyone, but Lane, who works for the US Department of Veterans Affairs, isn\u2019t quite so lucky. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe usually says he has to take the dog to the vet,\u201d she said.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
