I\u2019m not a fan of art ownership through collectible tokens. There are just too many instances of art plagiarism. But according to Sandra Ro, CEO of the <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gbbcouncil.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Global Blockchain Business Council<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, things are just getting started in the world of NFTs, and it goes far beyond art.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this year\u2019s TNW Conference, Ro shared an insider perspective of where we are with NFTs and where we\u2019re going. She presented some good business opportunities, but offered less compelling solutions to solving the pain points.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"From_NFT_art_to_digital_injections\"><\/span><strong>From NFT art to digital injections\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ro described an explosion in popularity in ownership NFT collectives, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where \u201cany <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> or physical thing can now have a unique identifier and proof of ownership that is verifiable on the blockchain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Thank_you_for_joining\"><\/span>Thank you for joining!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Check out the highlights from TNW Conference 2022 \u2192<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She concedes that while the market \u201cis very messy, as all new things are,\u201d the real value added is the uniqueness of that personally verifiable token, and the ability to \u201cinject economics\u201d into this.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She offered an example of frictionless buying and selling, and fractionalized ownership. In an example of the latter, someone who owns a token representing annual membership to a sports club could sell the remaining part of their membership to another subscriber.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not a bad idea. Getting out of an annual contract is nothing but pain in many countries. In Germany, for example, for contracts signed before January 2022, you need to give three months\u2019 notice or provide proof you are leaving the country \u2013 so if this simplifies such processes, I am all for it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But NFTs can also go far beyond transactional memberships to provide a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">catalyst for added value.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"NFTs_for_bringing_sports_fans_closer_to_the_action\"><\/span><strong>NFTs for bringing sports fans closer to the action<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ro described a world of fan engagement that NFTs could enable, with special deals such as insider VIP access and the ability for marketers to create \u201cmore stickiness inside their community.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ro asserts that there is a lot of money to make in sports and NFTs. The sport recently launched <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sailgp.com\/general\/digitalcollectables\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a series of NFTs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of a partnership with<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/near.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> NEAR Foundation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, makers of blockchain platform Astro. Each focuses on local art and sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s clever. Collecting memorabilia has always been a key part of sports fan engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, crypto bros LOVE boats \u2014 from the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bored Ape Yacht Club<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20181205154520\/https:\/\/breakermag.com\/trapped-at-sea-with-cryptos-nouveau-riche\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> blockchain cruises<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s part of a big digital plan where there\u2019s even <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a SailGP DAO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that lets fans buy a sailboat and form their own team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, I think NFTs will prove far more challenging in the case of stadium sports, whereas Ro admits \u201cthere are many intermediaries, and they are still working it out.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smart sports stadiums already have highly sophisticated fan <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; While most are well-intentioned, I suspect most people lack the digital auditing skills to distinguish credible accounts from frauds definitively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides fraud, there\u2019s also the security woes that have plagued cryptocurrencies, and their manifestly high carbon footprint to consider.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Unfortunately_theres_plenty_to_worry_about\"><\/span><strong>Unfortunately, there\u2019s plenty to worry about\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the plus side, Ro shared that the Bitcoin network has never been successfully hacked. However, she concedes that the energy used in providing that security is high. \u201cWhat are you willing to live with?\u201d she asked \u2014 secure cryptocurrency, or a low carbon footprint.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She also concedes that bad actors are inevitable. Further, there\u2019s a challenge in putting up guard rails without killing innovation. More regulations can limit NFT ownership to accredited investors, who she admits are \u201ca very particular socio class who don\u2019t most need to build wealth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I see promise in NFTs for particular use cases.
