When asked about that possibility during a city council meeting on Tuesday night captured by <em>KENS 5<\/em>, he not only agreed it\u2019s possible, he announced it was already decided:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMy understanding \u2014 I had a discussion with the superintendent \u2014 that school will be demolished. We could never ask a child to go back, or a teacher to go back into that school ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Knowing how traumatized many of the survivors have been in the wake of this tragedy, this seems like a very important step in the right direction as they continue to process and heal. None of those students and faculty should be faced with that horrific memory while they\u2019re trying to learn and feel safe in school again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Uvalde Cops Got A Little Girl Killed During Shooting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another question, however \u2014 how will anyone in the town trust the cops again?<\/p>\n<p>This comes after <strong>Steve McCraw<\/strong>, the director of the <strong>Department of Public Safety<\/strong>, testified that police officers could have stopped the gunman within THREE MINUTES of arriving at the school \u2014 instead of the mind-boggling<em> hour and 14 minutes<\/em> they waited. He revealed during a State Senate hearing on Tuesday:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe officers had weapons; the children had none. The officers had body armor; the children had none. The officers had training; the subject had none. One hour, 14 minutes and eight seconds. That\u2019s how long children waited, and the teachers waited, in Room 111 to be rescued.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThree minutes after the subject entered the west hallway, there was sufficient number of armed officers wearing body armor, to isolate distract and neutralize the subject.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He also called the police department\u2019s response an \u201cabject failure\u201d of law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Hotel Guest Saw QAnon Dad With His Children Just Before Alleged Murders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is definitely a bigger issue at play here than just a building. While the town is hard at work demolishing and likely rebuilding this school, we hope they\u2019re also just as busy training their officers on how to better handle emergencies like this in the future \u2014 and firing those in charge on the day!
