of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, but that\u2019s only one of many signs of the disorder.<\/p>\n<p>The disease, which affects <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/aging\/publications\/features\/Alz-Greater-Risk.html#:~:text=Alzheimer's%20disease%20is%20the%20most,65%20with%20younger%2Donset%20Alzheimer's.\">5.8 million people in the US<\/a>, often presents as forgetfulness, irritability and trouble communicating.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, researchers said they\u2019d uncovered <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/content.iospress.com\/articles\/journal-of-alzheimers-disease\/jad220187\">another sign<\/a> of the illness: imprudent altruism.<\/p>\n<p>The new findings suggested that elderly people who were more willing to give away money to strangers are at a higher risk of developing the neurodegenerative disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrouble handling money is thought to be one of the early signs of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, and this finding supports that notion,\u201d said Duke Han, lead study author and professor of neuropsychology, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/keck.usc.edu\/willingness-to-give-away-money-among-older-adults-linked-to-cognitive-profile-of-early-alzheimers-disease\/#:~:text=A%20new%20study%20from%20the,than%20those%20who%20gave%20less.\">in a statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The study is the latest to shed light on the mysterious disease. That\u2019s because the part of the brain that controls our internal filter, the frontal prefrontal cortex, is known to shrink with age, according to experts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese situations can be very confusing, distressing, shocking or frustrating for someone with dementia, as well as for those close to them,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alzheimers.org.uk\/about-dementia\/symptoms-and-diagnosis\/symptons\/losing-inhibitions\">the Alzheimer\u2019s Society<\/a> has explained. \u201cThe person with dementia may not understand why their behavior is considered in<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate. It\u2019s very unlikely that they are being inappropriate on purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of these situations include patients who are accidentally rude or impolite \u2014 and, in some unfortunate cases, inappropriately touching others. <\/p>\n<p>Swearing may also be a marker, as the illness weakens their inhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>A study published in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3594691\/\">Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology<\/a> asked 70 patients to name as many words as possible that began with the letters \u201cf,\u201d \u201ca\u201d and \u201cs\u201d in under a minute.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of raw data, 32 patients with dementia offered the swear word \u201cf\u2013k\u201d when asked for a list of words starting with that letter.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_new_wardrobe\"><\/span><strong>A new wardrobe<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The disease can make it difficult to get dressed in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>When left unattended, people with Alzheimer\u2019s can pick clothes that don\u2019t go well together and might not be weather appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Research published in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6849805\/\">Sociology of Health and Illness<\/a> studied 38 people in care homes. One study participant, Melissa, discussed the change in her father\u2019s dressing habits after he developed Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never seen my dad scruffy. Never.
