However, advocates note that many Republicans are sponsors, suggesting they might be able to pass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe could drop them on the floor tomorrow and they would pass,\u201d Greer said.<\/p>\n<p>The John Oliver segment touts the bills while pointing out that Schumer\u2019s daughters work at companies that would be impacted by the legislation. Brian Schatz of Hawaii, Ron Wyden of Oregon, Ben Ray Luj\u00e1n of New Mexico and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin \u2014<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/technology\/3524475-four-senate-democrats-push-klobuchar-to-revise-antitrust-bill-over-hate-speech-concerns\/amp\/\"> <\/a>to prevent the legislation from curbing <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/technology\/3524475-four-senate-democrats-push-klobuchar-to-revise-antitrust-bill-over-hate-speech-concerns\/amp\/\">content moderation practices<\/a>. Many conservatives accuse Big Tech platforms of engaging in politically motivated censorship.<\/p>\n<p>In May, a top aide to another Democrat, Sen.\u00a0Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/26\/vulnerable-senate-democrats-back-off-big-tech-bill-00035307\">reportedly raised objections <\/a>to the legislation on a conference call.<\/p>\n<p>But Greer said it was \u201ctotally bogus\u201d to say that the votes aren\u2019t there. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), who is the lead sponsor, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/big-tech-bill-has-votes-needed-pass-top-us-antitrust-lawmaker-says-2022-06-14\/\">said recently<\/a> she has enough votes for passage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that these bills are essential for fighting for a future where <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> is a force for good and for empowerment and innovation and upliftment, rather than a force for tyranny and greed,\u201d Greer told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to do everything in our power to get these bills passed. And as long as Sen. A seventh Republican, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, supported it in committee.<\/p>\n<p>The associated <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/2710\">Open App Markets Act<\/a>, which would restrict Google and Apple from rigging their smartphone app stores against competitors, has some of the same sponsors, plus two additional Republicans, Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)<\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans want strict regulations to ensure the free flow of information and commerce. For example, legislation from Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) would declare certain platforms to be \u201ccommon carriers\u201d that could not discriminate based on content.
