I was certain that this was going to happen. It was just a matter of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100068030815707\/videos\/504411584814919\">In his June 11 Facebook<\/a> post about the railroad crossing, Spencer included a video showing a train approaching Porche Prairie Avenue at a high rate of speed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to cross this with farm equipment to get to several of our fields,\u201d he wrote at the time. \u201cWe have been on the RR for several years about fixing the approach by building the road up, putting in signals, signal lights or just cutting the brush back.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/train-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"The 8-car Amtrak train carrying 275 passengers went off the track near Mendon, Missouri, Monday after hitting a dump truck at a crossing \" class=\"wp-image-22832739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/train-1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/train-1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/train-1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The 8-car Amtrak train carrying 275 passengers went off the track near Mendon, Missouri, Monday after hitting a dump truck at a crossing.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis train is only moving at approximately 45-50 but some come through at anywhere from 70-90 mph.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spencer warned anyone crossing the tracks with a vehicle to \u201capproach very slowly, then look both ways\u201d because there are about 85 trains going through the crossing each day.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Both Spencer and another local farmer, Daryl Jacobs, said the approach to the crossing is very steep \u2014 about 9 feet from the flat road to the top of the track \u2014 and a portion of it is obstructed by brush.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to cross over it with farm equipment, loaded grain trucks,\u201d Spencer, who grows soybeans and corn on farmland surrounding the crossing, told the paper. \u201cWe have no choice but to cross that track. It\u2019s very treacherous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The train was carrying 275 passengers from Los Angeles to Chicago when it struck a dump truck at a remote intersection on a gravel road with no lights or electronic controls, said Cpl.
