\n New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced Friday that the state will adopt mail-in voting for the upcoming November general election.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what party you\u2019re in \u2014 everybody gets a ballot,\u201d the Democratic governor said during an interview on CNN.<\/p>\n

This is the first time the state will be holding a general election that is expected to be mostly by vote-by-mail.<\/p>\n

Murphy explained that the state\u2019s largely vote-by-mail primary held last month was \u201ca success,\u201d so the state will do the same when New Jersey voters cast their ballot for president.<\/p>\n

For the July 7 primary \u2014 which was delayed due to the coronavirus crisis \u2014 the state conducted a \u201chybrid model\u201d where ballots were mailed to residents in the state.<\/p>\n

In addition, in-person voting at 50 percent capacity was held in each county.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to extend that model into the general election in November,\u201d Murphy said, noting, \u201cIt was a success \u2014 not perfect, but overwhelmingly a success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murphy added, \u201cWe learned some lessons. Most importantly, we\u2019re going to have more presence of secure drop boxes \u2014 make sure there is that physical in-voting capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor said that New Jersey residents will all be mailed a ballot and they will decide whether or not to cast their votes by mail.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if you do vote in person you\u2019ll have to do provisional voting because the folks won\u2019t necessarily know at the voting location whether or not you actually mailed a ballot in,\u201d Murphy said.<\/p>\n

Several states have already adopted mail-in voting as a result of the coronavirus crisis.<\/p>\n

President Trump has repeatedly spoken out by against voting by mail, claiming that the practice allows for rampant fraud, and warned that allowing for mail-in voting will result in a \u201crigged election.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
