\n Even in the middle of the Patriots\u2019 dynasty, head coach Bill Belichick still invoked his days as the Giants defensive coordinator to motivate New England\u2019s defense \u2014 especially the linebackers.<\/p>\n

Whatever Belichick did, it worked, as the Patriots have won six Super Bowls under his watch.<\/p>\n

And his strategy of bringing up his time with the Giants certainly had an impact on at least one of his Patriot linebackers, Mike Vrabel, who won three titles in New England.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery other day, it\u2019s not an exaggeration that [Belichick] would reference the New York Giants,\u2019\u2019 Vrabel said on NBC Sports. \u201cAnd he\u2019d be like, \u2018[Carl] Banks used to do this, Pepper [Johnson] used to do this, and [Lawrence Taylor].\u2019 Like, \u2018You guys stink. These guys were 3-4 linebackers.\u2019 And he would show us film.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Vrabel, now head coach of the Titans, got his revenge by showing up for a practice during preseason in August 2007 with a Giants helmet from Belichick\u2019s tenure in New York, which lasted from 1979-1990.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo finally I was like, \u2018OK, we\u2019ve got to do something,\u2019\u201d Vrabel said. \u201cAnd I found this old helmet in the equipment room, and I was like, \u2018You know what? I think now\u2019s the time to roll with it, come out there and be like, \u2018Here we go, Bill. We\u2019ve got the Giants linebackers going.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
