According to <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/kanye-west-sued-donda-2-sample-marshall-jefferson\/\">Billboard<\/a><\/em>, the Chicago rap icon is being sued over an allegedly unauthorized sample on his latest album <em>Donda 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A complaint filed in U.S. District Court in New York on Wednesday (June 29) claims Kanye\u2019s song \u201cFlowers\u201d sampled Marshall Jefferson\u2019s 1986 Chicago house hit \u201cMove Your Body\u201d (a.k.a. \u201cThe House Music Anthem\u201d) without proper permission or compensation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GWb0HXQHZ4M\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GWb0HXQHZ4M<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The suit, which was filed on behalf of Jefferson\u2019s publisher, Ultra International Music Publishing (UIMP), claims Ye has acknowledged he sampled \u201cMove Your Body\u201d without authorization, yet \u201ccontinue[s] to willfully infringe in blatant disregard of UIMP\u2019s rights of ownership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It also names Alex Klein, who co-created Kanye\u2019s Stem Player \u2013 the innovative $200 audio device through which <em>Donda 2<\/em> was exclusively released \u2013 along with Klein\u2019s company Kano Computing Limited. UIMP is seeking damages, profits, a cease in distribution and a jury trial.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Move Your Body\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NPbH-Knhjes?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kanye West claimed to have sold 11,000 Stem Players within 24 hours of <em>Donda 2<\/em>\u2018s release on February 23 \u2014 amounting to $2.2 million in revenue \u2014 although the album has yet to be made available on wider streaming services such as Spotify, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le Music and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes,\u201d Ye announced at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s time to free music from the oppressive system. It\u2019s time to take control and build our own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite A-list features from Future, Travis Scott, Quavo, Offset and the late XXXTENTACION, <em>Donda 2<\/em> was met with mixed reviews; in a 3.4 out of 5 review, <em>HipHopDX<\/em> praised its cohesiveness and collaborations, but found \u201ccracks in his lyricism and creative decision-making when airing out his family\u2019s matters become the focus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kanye West is no stranger to copyright lawsuits.
