Nothing is perfect, though, and sometimes things do go wrong. Here\u2019s how you can enter Recovery Mode to fix your device.<\/p>\n<p>Reinstalling iOS on your iPhone or iPad always runs the risk of wiping your data, so it is prudent to make frequent backups on your computer via iTunes, or with iCloud. That said, here\u2019s how you boot your iPhone, iPod, or iPad into Recovery Mode.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Make_Sure_You_Have_the_Latest_iTunes_Version\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_0\">Make Sure You Have the Latest iTunes Version<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>First, you\u2019ll need to make sure you\u2019re using the latest version of iTunes. If it fails \u2014 or you otherwise have reason to think it isn\u2019t updating properly \u2014 you can always <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210384\">redownload the installer from the Apple website if you\u2019re running Windows<\/a>, or check for updates in the App Store if you\u2019re running macOS. That\u2019ll ensure you\u2019re using the most recent version of iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>With that out of the way, you\u2019re ready to get started. The rest of the procedure varies slightly depending on what device you\u2019re using, so we\u2019ll go over them one at a time.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Entering_Recovery_Mode_on_the_iPhone_8_or_Later\"><\/span>Entering Recovery Mode on the iPhone 8 or Later<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>All iPhones manufactured since 2017 have used the same method to access recovery mode. As of June 2022, the included models are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>iPhone 8, and 8 Plus<\/li>\n<li>iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max<\/li>\n<li>iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max<\/li>\n<li>iPhone SE (Second and Third Generations)<\/li>\n<li>iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max<\/li>\n<li>iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Press and release the volume up button, then press and release the volume down button, and then hold the power button until the recovery mode screen pops up. Then hold the volume down button and the power button simultaneously until the recovery screen appears. Then all you need to do is hold the power button and the Home button simultaneously. Hang on to the buttons until the Recovery Mode screen appears. If your iPad doesn\u2019t have a Home button, the process for entering Recovery Mode is basically the same as all of the newer iPhones.<\/p>\n<p>Press and release the volume button closest to the power button, then press and release the farther button, and then press and hold the power button until the recovery screen appears.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of different button configurations you\u2019ll find on iPads, though. If you don\u2019t move quickly enough and your phone exits Recovery Mode, repeat the same button presses as explained above to enter it again.<\/p>\n<p>A window like the one below will pop up on your computer once you\u2019ve successfully entered Recovery Mode on your phone or tablet. You will be prompted to Restore or Update.<\/p>\n<p>You should try the \u201cUpdate\u201d option first. Your issues may very well be fixed by updating your iPhone or iPad without completely reinstalling your operating system. The \u201cUpdate\u201d option preserves all of your files and settings, which will \u2014 at a minimum \u2014 save you time and effort setting everything up again.
