According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/06\/30\/cruise-robotaxis-blocked-traffic-for-hours-on-this-san-francisco-street\/\"><em>TechCrunch<\/em><\/a>, images of the situation quickly appeared all over <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TaylorOgan\/status\/1542346416256843776\">Twitter<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/sanfrancisco\/comments\/vnmpf1\/bunch_of_cruise_cars_stuck_on_gough_by_robin\/\">Reddit<\/a>,\u00a0with users quick to make jokes about robots coming to take over the human resistance.<\/p>\n<p>Cruise is an autonomous taxi service operating in California and received funding from both <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Motors and Honda. The company has tested\u00a0its <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> in San Francisco\u00a0for more than a year and finally launched its 100% autonomous taxi service to the public in early June. Unfortunately, the service isn\u2019t off to the best start.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Some <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cruise?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Cruise<\/a> robotaxis appeared to be stuck in SF last night at the corner of Gough St. and Fulton St.<\/p>\n<p>Human ops apparently had to rescue them. Still some kinks to iron out. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eXDocjVfHU\">pic.twitter.com\/eXDocjVfHU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Taylor Ogan (@TaylorOgan) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TaylorOgan\/status\/1542346416256843776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 30, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Several Cruise self-driving taxis decided to group together, put on the brakes, and completely stop moving. While it\u2019s hard to tell from the photos, it looks like upwards of 10+ vehicles stopped on two different streets next to an intersection.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Cruise employees had to be dispatched to handle the situation and retrieve the uncooperative vehicles.\u00a0One user on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit<\/a> said, \u201cI think a group of autonomous vehicles should be called a \u201ccollective,\u201d as in resistance is futile,\u201d while laughing about the situation. And while it\u2019s somewhat funny, the fact that self-driving cars caused a massive traffic jam for several hours in a busy city is no laughing matter.<\/p>\n<p id=\"6qMOtz\">A spokesperson for Cruise gave a statement to\u00a0<em>TechCrunch<\/em>, which sounds like something out of the movie <em>iRobot<\/em>, yet had no information to share regarding why it happened, only that it did indeed happen.<\/p>\n<p id=\"wTLg2G\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cWe had an issue earlier this week that caused some of our vehicles to cluster together. While it was resolved and no passengers were impacted, we apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>These self-driving autonomous vehicles randomly clustered together and stopped moving. It\u2019s worth noting that Cruise vehicles can only drive\u00a0on \u201cselect streets\u201d in San Fran from 10 PM to 6 AM, at speeds no more than 30mph. As we can see, the company still has a few kinks to iron out.<\/p>\n<p>For what it\u2019s worth, this isn\u2019t the first incident we\u2019ve seen from self-driving cars. Waymo operates on the streets of San Francisco as well.
