\n A radical Islamic cleric will be arraigned Friday in Manhattan court on terrorism charges after encouraging an undercover NYPD cop to carry out terror attacks, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Shaikh Abdullah Faisal, 56, was arrested three years ago in Jamaica and was finally brought to New York on Thursday after fighting the extradition.<\/p>\n

The militant cleric \u2014 born as Trevor William Forrest \u2014 allegedly communicated with a female undercover NYPD officer by email, text and video chat to encourage her to join ISIS and carry out attacks abroad from 2015 to 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cShaikh Faisal has dedicated his life to terror recruitment,\u201d Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said at the time of the cleric\u2019s arrest, which resulted from a joint operation with the NYPD.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough his lectures, website, and videos, he incites untold numbers of people around the world to take up the cause of jihad,\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n

A popular online figure, Faisal has overtly supported ISIS and the establishment of an Islamic caliphate through violent jihad.<\/p>\n

In one of his online lectures, he declared, \u201cThe way forward is not the ballot. The way forward is the bullet,\u201d according to the indictment.<\/p>\n

In recorded conversations with the undercover cop, Faisal encouraged her to take a Muslim groom and offered to arrange the marriage for her.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 26, 2015, Faisal sent the undercover an email stating, \u201ca brother in the dawla wants to interview u for marriage. Pls whatsapp<\/a> him,\u201d court papers allege.<\/p>\n

\u201cShaikh Faisal has used his influence and direction to groom and inspire terrorists who have bombed trains, attempted to blow up airliners, and attack Americas here and abroad,\u201d said then-NYPD police commissioner James O\u2019Neill at the time of Faisal\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n

The NYPD and Manhattan DA began their pursuit of Faisal in 2014.<\/p>\n

Faisal was previously convicted of similar charges in England for inciting murder and using inflammatory language \u201cin furtherance of terrorist ideologies,\u201d according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s expected to be arraigned this afternoon before Justice Maxwell Wiley on five counts \u2013including conspiracy as a crime of terrorism, soliciting or providing support for an act of terrorism and other raps.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
