\n Welcome to Tom Brady\u2019s world, Cam Newton.<\/p>\n

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick doesn\u2019t hand out praise very easily. Not for six-time Super Bowl champions and not for former MVP quarterbacks who have not yet been through a padded practice under his watch.<\/p>\n

But what does Belichick think of Newton so far?<\/p>\n

\u201cCam\u2019s a hard-working kid,\u201d Belichick told reporters Friday, per ESPN. \u201cHe really is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belichick hasn\u2019t yet named Newton, 31, as the starter over second-year pro Jarrett Stidham and veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer. The Patriots kicked up the tempo of practice Friday and will move to full contact Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s worked very hard, I\u2019d say, as all of our players have,\u201d Belichick said. \u201cI\u2019d say that certainly for all the quarterbacks. At that position, those guys have been locked in, focused and confident in what they\u2019re able to do and the information they have to give to the team \u2013 play-calling, adjustments, audibles, protection adjustments, things like that. That\u2019s all going pretty well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belichick\u2019s ways of criticizing Brady like any other member of the team worked \u2026 until it didn\u2019t. It remains to be seen how the accomplished Newton will handle it as he tries to prove the Carolina Panthers made a mistake cutting him this offseason.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Newton\u2019s first impression on teammates has been positive.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a big guy, that\u2019s for sure \u2014 just his physical presence,\u201d running back Rex Burkhead said. \u201cHe\u2019s come in right away, head down, and tried to pick it up as quick as possible. \u2026 His first impact has been great. He\u2019s just trying to learn as much as he can and mesh and jell with the rest of the guys.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
