rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/kanye-west-sued-donda-2-sample-marshall-jefferson\/\"><i>Billboard<\/i> reports<\/a> and court documents reviewed by The FADER confirm. A complaint filed Wednesday in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by attorneys for Ultra International Music Publishing (UIMP) claims Ye did not clear the sample of Marshall Jefferson\u2019s 1986 house anthem \u201cMove Your Body\u201d that can allegedly be heard at least 22 times on the <i>Donda 2<\/i> track \u201cFlowers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Like the rest of <i>Donda 2<\/i>, \u201cFlowers\u201d was released in late February exclusively on Stem Player, an MP3 device created specifically for the album in collaboration with Alex Klein and his company, Kano Computing Limited. Klein and Kano are also named as defendants in UIMP\u2019s lawsuit, which points to a claim Kanye made in February that he\u2019d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hypebeast.com\/2022\/2\/kanye-west-claims-stem-player-made-2-million-usd-first-day-donda-2\">earned $2.2 million<\/a> from the record\u2019s unorthodox release in a single day.<\/p>\n<p>            In their complaint, UIMP\u2019s attorneys point to the gulf between Ye\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/kanye-west-speaks-plan-to-re-think-the-music-industry\/\">self-proclaimed commitment to the fair treatment of artists<\/a> and his alleged infringement on Jefferson\u2019s intellectual property. \u201cManifesting the height of hypocrisy, West advocates for artists\u2019 rights with one hand, yet has no shame in taking away rights from another artist with the other,\u201d they write.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cI\u2019ve been sampled thousands of times,\u201d Jefferson said in a statement that was sent to The FADER by a representative of his management. \u201cThere is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. Most of these cases have ended in out-of-court settlements.<\/p>\n<p>            UIMP\u2019s lawyers offered no further comment on their allegations when contacted by The FADER.
