\n The Dolphins quarterbacks aren\u2019t going to let the Miami heat get to them.<\/p>\n

Newcomer Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has his work cut out for him, trying to work his way into playing time behind veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and former top-10 pick Josh Rosen.<\/p>\n

So far, however, everything has been nice and cordial.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo start it off with \u2018Fitz\u2019 \u2013 (he is a) very, very down-to-earth person,\u201d Tagovailoa said on a Zoom call with reporters Friday, while sporting Fitzpatrick\u2019s No. 14 jersey.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery humble. I got to meet his family about two days ago and it was pretty funny because everyone while we were on FaceTime, everyone\u2019s just scattered around the house. So he introduces me to his kids and then he introduces me to his wife and he\u2019s like, \u2018This is it. This is everyone and this is my family,\u2019 and then (laughter), lo and behold he forgets two of them. It\u2019s like, this man really has a family. He\u2019s really been in the league for so long.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be behind a professional like that, to me it\u2019s kind of mind-boggling how down-to-earth he is. It\u2019s one of those things where it\u2019s, this guy gets it.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, the well-travel<\/a>ed Fitzpatrick is taking his mentor role seriously, knowing he\u2019s simply a stopgap until the 22-year-old takes over under center. The only Dolphins player over the age of 30, Fitzpatrick in on his eighth NFL team and entering his 16th pro season. In November, he will be 38.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how much time it will be before Tua will be in the lineup,\u201d he said on Aug. 1. \u201cI know that I am the placeholder. We\u2019ve already had that conversation. I\u2019ve told him, \u2018I\u2019m going to do the best I can to lead this team and win football game<\/a>s when I\u2019m out there.\u2019 Whenever it is that Tua gets his chance whether it\u2019s early or late or whenever, I\u2019m going to be his biggest cheerleader.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are plenty of other big names in Tagovailoa\u2019s corner this early in his career, and he\u2019s putting in the work to win over franchise icon Dan Marino as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first day I got into the building, Dan was in our meeting and I got to talk to Dan,\u201d Tagovailoa said. \u201cHe\u2019s also a really down-to-earth guy \u2013 someone that you can just chat with. For someone who pretty much is the talk of the town with Dan, he\u2019s super humble. He doesn\u2019t hold his head high or walk around here like he\u2019s the man \u2013 which he is, but he\u2019s super humble.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
