“#Alleged killer faces 25 years for burning, stabbing sister\u2019s suitor<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n He was a polite young man who doted on his younger siblings \u2014 and now Adones Betances, 22, is locked up without bail and facing up to 25 years in prison for the cruel stabbing and burning death of his little sister\u2019s teen suitor.<\/p>\n

Betances was arraigned and ordered remanded in Bronx Criminal Court on Friday on second degree murder and manslaughter.<\/p>\n

On his dying breath, victim Winston Ortiz fingered Betances as his killer, according to his criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

Video surveillance also implicates Betances, the complaint said.<\/p>\n

Ortiz, 18, had been dating Betances\u2019 14-year-old sister, law enforcement sources have told The Post. The girl had broken the relationship off on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Then, on Wednesday afternoon, Betances and Ortiz had a planned meeting on the fifth floor of a Highbridge building near where both young men lived, sources said.<\/p>\n

There, Betances allegedly stabbed Ortiz twice in the back and once in the chest. He then allegedly doused the dying teen with gasoline and set him ablaze.<\/p>\n

The vicitim\u2019s horrifying screams alerted neighbors, who doused the flames with buckets of water.<\/p>\n

Ortiz was able to tell cops at the scene that Betances was to blame. The bleeding, badly burned teen was then pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.<\/p>\n

Betances, who lost his scooter-delivery job due to the pandemic, was a respectful, quiet young man \u2014 and a good big brother, shocked neighbors said Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he saw me, he\u2019d say, \u2018Hi neighbor!’\u201d one recalled.<\/p>\n

Betances ran errands for the family, helped out with his younger siblings, and would apologize to the downstairs neighbors when they got too rambunctious and noisy, they said.<\/p>\n

The romance between his little sister and Ortiz was known in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

\u201cA pretty little thing, too,\u201d a downstairs neighbor said of the sister.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see them at the corner doing their thing \u2013 kissing and holding hands. Then she would carry her ass on in and he\u2019d go. She never brought him inside.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, Betances\u2019 mother \u201cis crying,\u201d and his niece \u201cis devastated,\u201d the girl\u2019s uncle, Edward Guzman, told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe stays away from the news<\/a>,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cIt\u2019s like she doesn\u2019t want to be reminded of what happ<\/a>ened.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for his nephew, \u201cThis whole thing is like a nightmare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know why he did it. I don\u2019t know if I can accept that he did that type of thing. That\u2019s the opposite of who he is.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
