Now comes the hard part: impressing the admissions team and earning your acceptance letter. While GMAT scores and relevant work experience are obvious standards, recruiters at Canadian universities look at more than just grades and your resum\u00e9. So, how can you boost your chances of making a great impression?<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Be_passionate\"><\/span>Be passionate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Be it a cause, a club or your hobbies, demonstrating passion and dedication to something outside of the business world can showcase your collaborative capabilities, creativity, leadership skills and problem-solving acumen. \u201cWe look at our applicants holistically,\u201d says Brittany DeCoffe, manager of student recruitment at the University of Fredericton. \u201cIt helps to demonstrate experience related to managing people, projects and budgets.\u201d Equally important? Being able to explain how an MBA aligns with your passions.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Be_prepared\"><\/span>Be prepared<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Learn everything you can about your school of choice before you apply. \u201cDon\u2019t assume that everything you need to know about the program is on the [school\u2019s] website,\u201d says Teresa Pires, the associate director of recruitment for the MBA program at Queen\u2019s University in Kingston, Ont. \u201cDo your due diligence and connect with as many people as you can to get to know the program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fine-tune your resum\u00e9 to highlight your accomplishments, proofread your application documents to eliminate any typos or errors, and have someone you trust give you feedback on your admissions essay. \u201cBeing unprepared and showing a lack of interest during the application process will be noticed by the admissions committee,\u201d says Rima Vasudevan, director of recruitment and admissions at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Be_responsive\"><\/span>Be responsive<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The MBA admissions process is interactive. Recruiters want to see evidence that you\u2019re engaged and committed to the task. Check your email regularly and respond promptly to their requests for information; attend in-person events hosted by the school and introduce yourself to alumni and faculty; and, of course, meet every deadline set for you\u2014it reflects how well you\u2019ll meet deadlines throughout the program.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Be_authentic\"><\/span>Be authentic<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In your application and at your interview, tell your story your way, in your own words. Don\u2019t try to deliver what you think a recruiter wants to hear\u2014be honest and sincere about your experience, your goals, your strengths, and even your weaknesses or any gaps in your resum\u00e9. \u201cWhatever your motivation to pursue an MBA, we want to hear it!\u201d DeCoffee says. \u201cYour attitude and overall motivation for continuing your education is a good indicator of the value you will bring to the program.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Believe_in_yourself\"><\/span>Believe in yourself<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There is no one-size-fits-all \u201cperfect\u201d applicant.
