released \u2014 and they\u2019re absolutely breathtaking.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because the telescope has yielded the deepest and sharpest infrared photos of the early universe to date.<\/p>\n<p>Webb is the largest and most powerful telescope ever launched into space \u2014 a promising successor to the famous Hubble Telescope.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper neural channel-cta favorite AI stories in your inbox.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Here\u2019s are the top three differences between the two telescopes, as per NASA:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Webb primarily looks at the universe in the infrared, while Hubble mostly studies it at optical and ultraviolet wavelengths. This makes a big difference, as infrared views can peer through cosmic dust and unveil hidden objects or formations.<\/li>\n<li>Webb also has a much bigger mirror than Hubble. This larger light-collecting area means that it can peer farther back into time than Hubble is capable of doing.<\/li>\n<li>While Hubble orbits around the Earth at an altitude of 570km, Webb is much farther away. It sits at the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/solarsystem.nasa.gov\/resources\/754\/what-is-a-lagrange-point\/\">Earth-Sun L2 Lagrange point<\/a>, 1.5 million kilometers away!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even with our humble, earthbound eyes, we can still observe the difference in image quality and details the telescopes produce.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look:<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SMACS_0723\"><\/span>SMACS 0723<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>SMACS 0723 is a cluster of galaxies within the southern constellation of Volans.
