Beyond that piece, Beavan and her team created some 20 \u201cDior\u201d garments \u2014 many faithful reproductions of the designer\u2019s iconic pieces from 1947 to 1957.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It \u201ccouldn\u2019t be any old thing,\u201d Beavan said of the fashions. \u201cIt had to look like Dior, even if it wasn\u2019t. So it was quite a lot of pressure!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Back in the day, Dior\u2019s atelier attracted the richest and most glamorous women in the world, including princesses and stars like Marlene Dietrich and Grace Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDior\u2019s clients were mainly well-known in the political world, and were rich with good taste,\u201d Luciana Arrighi, the production designer for \u201cMrs. Harris,\u201d told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>In keeping with his clientele, Dior\u2019s studio was \u201cgrand,\u201d with its all-white interiors, hushed ambience and \u201cbreathtaking\u201d sweeping staircase, which Arrighi\u2019s team re-created from scratch on set in Hungary, using blueprints and furniture from the fashion label\u2019s archive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe atmosphere at Dior was to give reassurance to the richer and renowned,\u201d said Arrighi, who in the 1960s worked as a couture model for Dior\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9, Yves Saint Laurent.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"978\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/christian-dior-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Models show off fashions in Dior's studio\" class=\"wp-image-23055127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/christian-dior-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/christian-dior-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/christian-dior-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Dior\u2019s elegant studio was designed to accommodate his top-tier clients. Here, models show off fashions from his 1957 collection.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Loomis Dean\/The LIFE Picture Col<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When Harris finally gets to Paris \u2014 after scrimping, playing the lotto and even dabbling in some horse betting \u2014 she unwittingly walks into a Dior fashion show, based on the fashion label\u2019s 10th anniversary couture show in 1957. After a villainous vendeuse<em> <\/em>  (played by Isabelle Huppert) tries to throw the dowdily-dressed Harris out of the building, a kindly marquis invites her to stay as his guest \u2014 opening the door for her couture transformation. <\/p>\n<p>Beavan began researching Dior when she was working on her previous film, the similarly fashion-focused \u201cCruella.\u201d For \u201cMrs. Harris,\u201d she visited the Dior archive, where she saw \u201clots of wonderful stuff\u201d \u2014 sketches, patterns, fabric samples, books \u2014 but hardly any clothes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey didn\u2019t see the importance of keeping things in the \u201850s,\u201d Beavan said. \u201cThey\u2019d make the collection, sell it and then move on to the next collection.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/christian-dior-caracas-dress.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Side-by-side image of Dior's design &quot;Caracas&quot; Seeing how that was put together helped with recreating some of the intricate techniques that Dior\u2019s sewers used \u2014 from draping to embroidering to bolstering skirts and collars with layers upon layers of stiff organza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe would use up to five layers of organza,\u201d said Bright. \u201cIt\u2019s a technique that\u2019s quite costly, because it takes time to do all that stuff,\u201d he said, adding that it took three weeks to make some of the pieces. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the reasons why a Dior dress costs so much.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And that expense, that opulence, had to be captured in \u201cMrs. Harris\u201d \u2014 though at a fraction of the cost. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were on a ridiculously small budget and in full-on COVID,\u201d Beavan said, chuckling at the thought of Dior sewing 1,500 floral petals onto a dress. \u201cWe didn\u2019t have the time or money to do that, but I am thrilled with how it turned out.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
