I don\u2019t even know the alligators!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I can\u2019t figure exactly what distinguishes a \u201csocial activist\u201d from a social inactivist, other that inactivist is not a word.<\/p>\n<p>But I\u2019ve come to learn what it now takes to be anointed a \u201csocial activist.\u201d All you need is one media outlet to bestow that title and, Voila! You\u2019re a social activist.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN last week sent an alert that its \u201cRachel Nichols sat down with Portland\u2019s Carmelo Anthony to discuss his journey back to the NBA and his ongoing social activism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s interesting given, based on what I\u2019ve seen, Anthony\u2019s most visible social activism was flashing that three-to-the-head street-gang rubout sign after scoring a 3, a gesture that quickly and mindlessly spread throughout basketball.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to that, Anthony <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared in a locally produced and distributed video, starring a since-incarcerated gang leader warning the folks of Baltimore not to \u201csnitch\u201d to the cops or you and your family will be at peril of retaliation, perhaps even three to the head.<\/p>\n<p>But if ESPN says he\u2019s a social activist it must be true. ESPN fired veteran tennis analyst Doug Adler for being a racist after he praised Venus Williams\u2019 effective \u201cguerilla tactics.\u201d So ESPN doesn\u2019t get social activism issues wrong.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16141579\"><img alt=\"Carmelo Anthony\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Carmelo Anthony<\/span><span>NBAE via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2013, star Vikings running back Adrian Peterson played the day after his infant son was murdered by his mother\u2019s boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>The next year Peterson was charged with felonious assault on a child \u2014 and suspended by the NFL \u2014 for beating his 4-year-old son so viciously that even childcare workers were appalled. From their report:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeterson\u2019s son had pushed another one of Peterson\u2019s children off of a motorbike video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>. As punishment, Peterson grabbed a tree branch \u2014 which he consistently referred to as a \u201cswitch\u201d \u2014 removed the leaves and struck the child repeatedly.<\/p>\n<p>The beating allegedly resulted in numerous injuries to the child, including cuts and bruises to the child\u2019s back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum, along with defensive wounds to the child\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeterson then texted the boy\u2019s mother, saying that one wound in particular would make her \u201cmad at me about his leg. I got kinda good wit [sic] the tail end of the switch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then there were tamer moments, such as his arrest in a nightclub and for ignoring piles of parking tickets.<\/p>\n<p>Peterson, now with the Washington Football Team, recently was asked if he plans to \u201ctake a knee\u201d during the national anthem. He said he does, to protest social injustice.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the on-going tale of former A\u2019s catcher and current Mets signee Bruce Maxwell, the first MLB player to take a knee during the anthem. He soon was out of MLB and playing in Mexico, thus the math became straight edition for the media, starting with an interview on ESPN:<\/p>\n<p>Maxwell was dumped because he dared demonstrate his social activism. He was, according to ESPN, a victim of systemic white racism.<\/p>\n<p>That Maxwell next summoned a food delivery to his home then held a gun to the head of the woman delivering his food never made the cut. How he escaped prison for that is stunning.<\/p>\n<p>But he\u2019s a social activist because TV says so!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_now_blast-and-trot_or_whiff-and-shrug\"><\/span>It\u2019s now blast-and-trot or whiff-and-shrug<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As of Friday, the A\u2019s had struck out 192 times in 19 games and the White Sox 182 times in 19 games. Such stats once defied the limits of MLB possibility and ineptitude.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s even worse than the numbers indicate. MLB this season is using the DH in all games \u2014 to stimulate offense. And many of this season\u2019s strikeout totals are from seven-inning games.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, among the three home runs hit by the Dodgers\u2019 Mookie Betts on Thursday, only once did he near first base by the time it cleared the wall. On the other two he stood and posed.<\/p>\n<p>See ya at the Yoenis Cespedes Dance Studio &#038; Driving Range!<\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/hr>\n<p>If TNT analyst Stan Van Gundy isn\u2019t an NBA shill with a rotten sense of history, he played one last week.<\/p>\n<p>In a rationalization to the outer limits, he defended the NBA\u2019s continuing huge business partnerships with totalitarian, near-slave labor-enriched communist Red China, with this:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe committed genocide against Native Americans. We have enslaved, lynched and incarcerated blacks over 400 years. Women couldn\u2019t vote for 140 years. Using abuses elsewhere to try to distract from our own poor record on human rights is dishonest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the abuses committed by America and Americans Van Gundy wrote of were written in the past tense. The loss of even minimal rights in Red China is worsening to the extent that pro-democracy <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>papers in Hong Kong are being forced to close, their editors arrested.<\/p>\n<p>But Van Gundy is good with all that and apparently supports its continuance \u2014 given that we used to be very bad, too.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Not_much_%E2%80%98student_in_athletes\"><\/span>Not much \u2018student\u2019 in athletes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Why is that it none of our business what\u2019s done with taxpayers\u2019 money on behalf of funding big-time college sports?<\/p>\n<p>Pay the athletes? When will colleges be forced to be accountable for the student-athletes they recruit then disperse, so many of them uneducated?<\/p>\n<p>Adam \u201cPacman\u201d Jones last week reminded the public he\u2019s a 36-year-old semi-literate \u201cgangsta\u201d who matriculated through his junior year at West Virginia University. How was a recidivist, anti-social creep advanced by WVU if not for football-first priorities? Why shouldn\u2019t state schools answer to taxpayers?<\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/hr>\n<p>Sniff. Do you smell Third World rubber and glue?<\/p>\n<p>Heavily recruited QB Jake Garcia has played for four high schools over the past four years. Three have been in California, his latest is in Valdosta, Ga.<\/p>\n<p>Would it be wrong to wonder if there is be a sneaker company or two in there, somewhere?<\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/hr>\n<p>I still don\u2019t quite understand TV\u2019s computerized golf shot trackers.
