\n Half of Americans have a kink they\u2019d like to try with their partner \u2014 but haven\u2019t yet brought it up, according to new research.<\/p>\n

A survey of 2,000 sexually-active Americans found it takes the average respondent a little over three months to feel comfortable bringing up a personal sexual interest to their partner.<\/p>\n

The top reason they wait? Results found 40 percent haven\u2019t brought their kink up because they\u2019re worried their partner will leave, while the same number are worried about being judged.<\/p>\n

Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of the sex-positive lingerie brand Thistle and Spire, the survey delved into respondents\u2019 \u201csexplorations\u201d and how comfortable respondents feel with their partner.<\/p>\n

The survey found open communication is essential \u2014 especially when trying something new.<\/p>\n

Forty-one percent of respondents have been asked to try something that made them feel uncomfortable. Of those, 85 percent were comfortable letting their partner know they felt uneasy and 25 percent said they tried it eventually.<\/p>\n

And 75 percent of respondents are comfortable letting their partner know when they\u2019re unsatisfied in bed, which is important, seeing as the average respondent fakes an orgasm 26 percent of the time.<\/p>\n

When partners are comfortable expressing their own needs, it leads to better sex \u2014 according to 90 percent of respondents.<\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t always happ<\/a>en overnight though and results found it takes the average respondent a little over three months to be fully comfortable having sex with a new partner.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost people struggle with accepting themselves, but we can all benefit from practicing positive affirmations and treating our bodies like the beautiful gifts that they are. Gifting oneself beautiful lingerie can be an intoxicating way to celebrate your body in all its glory.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, 90 percent of respondents believe knowing \u2014 and being comfortable in \u2014 your own body leads to better sex.<\/p>\n

The average respondent said their partner has turned them onto seven new things \u2014 sex toys, new positions or kinks \u2014 and reports trying about two new things with their partner each month.<\/p>\n

But 78 percent of respondents would like to be more adventurous than they currently are and one way they\u2019re exploring this is through nude photos.<\/p>\n

The survey found the top reason for sending nudes is to keep the romance alive (37 percent), while 29 percent send nudes because it makes them feel confident or sexy.<\/p>\n

But nudes are only one way respondents are spicing things. Turns out, the top thing respondents have tried is simply wearing lingerie (36 percent).<\/p>\n

Half of respondents (51 percent) were interested in lingerie because it turns their partner on, while 44 percent said they wear lingerie for their own confidence and sexiness.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor individuals who are looking to explore their sexuality, lingerie can be a great place to start,\u201d said Maggie Bacon, Founder and CEO of Thistle and Spire. \u201cWhether you are wearing lingerie for yourself or your partner, lingerie allows you to frame your favorite parts of your body while also expressing different parts of your identity.<\/p>\n
