Netflix told Wall Street to expect 2 million subscribers to leave three months ago, while reporting its first subscriber decline in more than a decade and a miss on revenue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       In a letter to shareholders, Netflix executives said they expect 1 million new subscribers to join in the third quarter, with revenue forecast to grow to $7.84 billion from $7.48 billion a year ago. Analysts on average were estimating revenue of $8.09 billion and a net subscriber gain of 1.4 million for the third quarter, according to FactSet.<\/p>\n<p>Shares jumped more than 8% in after-hours trading following the release of the results, after closing with a 5.6% increase at $201.63.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix has rolled out some steps to reverse subscriber losses: It scheduled \u201cStranger Things\u201d on a split season straddling quarters to retain more members, and it is partnering with Microsoft Corp.<br \/>\n        MSFT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207732364\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.08%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       to bring a cheaper, ad-supported platform to the service in early 2023 with most of its content intact. In a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/about.netflix.com\/en\/news\/update-to-paid-sharing\" class=\"icon none\">blog post<\/a> Monday, Netflix said it plans to make customers in several Latin American markets pay extra if they want to add additional homes to their accounts in a move to crack down on shared accounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf one thing stood out, it was \u2018Stranger Things,&#8217;\u201d Netflix co-Chief Executive Reed Hastings said in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=niA_ECTcpvM\" class=\"icon none\">video call<\/a> late Tuesday. \u201cOur excitement was tempered by less-bad results.\u201d [In the first four weeks of season four, \u201cStranger Things\u201d generated 1.3 billion hours viewed, making it the company\u2019s biggest English show.]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese initiatives \u2014 paid sharing and advertising \u2014 do introduce some additional complexity, but our <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach has always been to keep our business model as simple as possible within the context of our growth objectives,\u201d Netflix executives wrote in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/s22.q4cdn.com\/959853165\/files\/doc_financials\/2022\/q2\/FINAL-Q2-22-Shareholder-Letter.pdf\" class=\"icon none\">letter to shareholders<\/a> Tuesday. \u201cIn this vein, these initiatives are similar to expanding into originals, launching our service across the world, and building our own studio, each of which also increased complexity but are natural extensions intended to enhance our existing business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It remains unclear, though, how much of an impact an advertising option will have on Netflix\u2019s bottom line, analysts say. \u201cGiven demand from brands, [Netflix\u2019s] advertising product will likely boost [average revenue per user] eventually. But there\u2019s no evidence yet it will lessen opt outs or meaningfully bring in more subscribers,\u201d Insider Intelligence\u2019s Ross Benes said.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix also announced on Tuesday the acquisition of animation studio Animal Logic, to help it \u201caccelerate the development of our animation production capabilities and reinforces our commitment to build a world-class animation studio,\u201d Netflix said in the letter and a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/about.netflix.com\/en\/news\/netflix-acquisition-animal-logic\" class=\"icon none\">separate statement<\/a>. Gaming is an area where the company sees ample opportunity to gain subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>The streaming-video giant\u2019s downturn after a pandemic-boosted surge has only intensified pressure from rival streaming services at Walt Disney Co.<br \/>\n        DIS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203410047\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+4.09%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Apple Inc.\u00a0<br \/>\n        AAPL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202934861\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.67%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0Amazon.com Inc.<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.91%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0Warner Bros. Discovery Inc.<br \/>\n        WBD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200511275\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.67%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0Comcast Corp.\u00a0<br \/>\n        CMCSA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209472081\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.90%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Paramount Global\u00a0<br \/>\n        PARA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200340870\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.16%<\/bg-quote><span>.<\/span>\n      <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Netflix\u2019s subscription woes in large part are a result of its decision to raise prices this year, according to a streaming satisfaction survey by tech-entertainment firm Whip <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> of nearly 2,500 U.S. respondents. HBO Max led the industry in customer satisfaction, with 94% of respondents saying they were \u201csatisfied\u201d or \u201cvery satisfied\u201d with the service. Netflix, which ranked second in 2021, dropped to fourth this year at 80%, behind Disney+ (88%) and Hulu (87%).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a pivotal moment in time for Netflix. The competition is catching up and, in some ways, surpassing the once-untouchable giant. Price-conscious consumers now have other choices to satisfy their streaming entertainment needs,\u201d Forrester Research Director Mike Proulx said.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix announced second-quarter earnings of $1.6 billion, or $3.20 a share, up from $2.97 a share a year ago. Netflix revenue improved to $7.97 billion in the quarter from $7.34 billion in the same period a year ago, but missed diminished expectations. Analysts polled by FactSet expected earnings of $2.95 a share on sales of $8.03 billion, estimates that had fallen in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix missed on revenue in the second quarter and its revenue guidance for the third quarter, which projects the company\u2019s first sequential revenue decline in a decade. Executives pointed to the stronger U.S. dollar, and said they would begin to offer some numbers based on a steady foreign-exchange rate established at the beginning of each year.  <\/p>\n<p>The steady drumbeat of disappointing subscription <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> has pummeled Netflix shares, which have declined 66% so far this year while the broader S&amp;P 500 index\u00a0<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+2.76%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has declined 17%.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix is \u201cstill the king of streaming, but to continue to lead, they can\u2019t just focus on subscriber acquisition.
