“#President Trump\u2019s brother Robert Trump dead at 72<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Robert Trump, President Trump\u2019s younger brother, who served as a top executive at the Trump Organization, has died. He was 72.<\/p>\n

Robert\u2019s death on Saturday comes a day after he was hospitalized in New York Friday. In June, he spent more than a week in the intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight,\u201d the president said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was not just my brother, he was my best friend,\u201d he went on. \u201cHe will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobert, I love you. Rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born in 1948, Robert was the youngest of Fred and Mary Trump\u2019s five children \u2014 behind Maryanne, Fred Jr., Elizabeth and Donald.<\/p>\n

He followed in Donald\u2019s footsteps in working for the family\u2019s real estate business the Trump Organization, holding senior positions including executive vice president in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Robert also oversaw the Trump Organization\u2019s casino operations in Atlantic City at one point.<\/p>\n

But unlike his celebrity brother, Robert managed to largely stay out of the public eye.<\/p>\n

He made headlines, however, with his divorce from Blaine Trump, the philanthropist who filed for the split in 2008 amid revelations that he was cheating on her with his Trump Organization secretary, Ann Marie Pallan.<\/p>\n

The former couple of 25 years, who did not have any children, were unable to reach an amicable divorce settlement \u2014 forcing them to hash it out in court.<\/p>\n

A Blaine pal said Robert was the one playing hardball.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobert offered her a settlement and then, for reasons unknown, yanked it off the table. So now she\u2019s forced to go to court to get her fair share of the marital assets,\u201d the source said at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were married for over two decades. She helped build his business, and now he\u2019s balking at giving her anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their divorce was finalized in 2010 under confidential terms.<\/p>\n

He and Pallan wound up buying a multimillion dollar home in Garden City, Long Island, with the pair officially tying the knot in March.<\/p>\n

Robert was a frequent \u2014 albeit reserved \u2014 fixture in Milbrook in Dutchess County, New York, too.<\/p>\n

One local resident described him as a classy and dignified guy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not flamboyant,\u201d the local told Town and Country magazine. \u201cHe couldn\u2019t be more different than his brother, quite frankly. I don\u2019t even know how they\u2019re in the same family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pallan owns the farm-to-table restaurant Monte\u2019s Local Kitchen & Tap Room in Amenia, which is 15 minutes down the road from Milbrook.<\/p>\n

The restaurant, where \u201cChopped\u201d champ Dafna Mizrahi serves as executive chef, catered to a Trump rally in Poughkeepsie in April.<\/p>\n

It also features a $17.50 eight-ounce burger named after Robert \u2014 the \u201cRST All American,\u201d with cheese, lettuce, aioli, homemade pickles and truffle fries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Trump boys love their burgers,\u201d Pallan told The Hudson Valley News<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

Robert was known for supporting local charities, including serving as a trustee of the nonprofit Angels of Light and a horse-rescue group, the magazine reported.<\/p>\n

He also regularly donated to Republican candidates and state committees, according to Federal Election Commission records.<\/p>\n

During his brother\u2019s 2016 campaign, Robert sang the future president\u2019s praises.<\/p>\n

\u201cI support Donald one thousand percent,\u201d Robert told Page Six. \u201cI think he\u2019s doing a great job. I think he\u2019s got a great message.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said he hadn\u2019t been asked to join his brother on the campaign trail but would.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he were to need me in any way, I\u2019d be there,\u201d said Robert, who described himself as \u201cgainfully retired.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything I could do to help.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two brothers were snapp<\/a>ed sharing a warm embrace that November, following Donald\u2019s victory speech in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

Last month, Robert issued a defense of his brother \u2014 and their late father \u2014 against allegations in niece Mary Trump\u2019s tell-all memoir that the president despised \u201cweakness.\u201d<\/p>\n

He told The New York Times that he knew \u201chow selfless my father was and Donald is, much more so than anyone would ever realize.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robert had joined the president\u2019s fight against the release of Mary\u2019s book, \u201cToo Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World\u2019s Most Dangerous Man,\u201d arguing that its publication would violate a 2001 nondisclosure agreement barring her from speaking publicly about family members.<\/p>\n

In a statement to the Times, he said he was \u201cdeeply disappointed\u201d in his niece.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer attempt to sensationalize and mischaracterize our family relationship after all these years for her own financial gain is both a travesty and injustice to the memory of my late brother, Fred, and our beloved parents,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI and the rest of my entire family are so proud of my wonderful brother, the president, and feel that Mary\u2019s actions are truly a disgrace,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

Mary is the daughter of Robert and Donald\u2019s late brother, Fred Jr., who died of alcoholism in 1981 at age 43.<\/p>\n

Robert is also survived by his sisters, Maryanne Trump Barry, who is retired as a senior judge on the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and Elizabeth Trump, a retired Chase Manhattan Bank executive.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
