Then this weekly <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>letter is for you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As per Ivan Barto\u0161, Deputy Prime Minister for Digitisation and Minister of Regional Development:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Thanks to the DMA, we will ensure fair competition online, more convenience for consumers and new opportunities for small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The gatekeepers that the DMA addresses are omnipresent \u2014 we all use their services on a daily basis. However, their power is growing to an extent that negatively affects competition.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The gatekeeper category covers online search engines, app stores, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> platforms. It also targets messaging apps, and operating systems, as well as advertising, e-commerce, and cloud services.<\/p>\n<p>For a platform to qualify as a gatekeeper, it must either have annual revenue of at least \u20ac7.5 billion ($8.2 billion) within the EU over the past three years, or have a market valuation of at least \u20ac75 billion ($82 billion). It also must have at least 45 million monthly users and 10,000 businessusers established in the EU.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_guide_to_the_landmark_decision\"><\/span>A guide to the landmark decision<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Gatekeepers are obliged to ensure the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They must inform the European Commission of their acquisitions and mergers.<\/li>\n<li>Unsubscribing from core platform services must be just as easy as subscribing.<\/li>\n<li>The basic functionalities of instant messaging services must be interoperable, meaning that users should be able to exchange messages and send voice messages or files across messaging apps.<\/li>\n<li>Business users must have access to their marketing or advertising performance data on the platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The imposed prohibitions are even more aggressive. Gatekeepers can no longer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rank their own products or services higher than those of others.<\/li>\n<li>Pre-install certain apps or software, or prevent users from easily un-installing these apps or software.<\/li>\n<li>Require the most important software (e.g. web browsers) to be installed by default when installing an operating system.<\/li>\n<li>Prevent developers from using third-party payment platforms for app sales.<\/li>\n<li>Reuse private data collected during a service for the purposes of another service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If they fail to comply with the DMA\u2019s rules within six months, they risk a fine of up to 10% of their total worldwide turnover \u2014 going up to 20% for repeat offenses.<\/p>\n<p>And if they violate the rules at least three times in eight years, the European Commission can open a market investigation and, if necessary, impose behavioral or structural remedies.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Google_Apple_Meta_and_Amazon_are_hit_hardest\"><\/span>Google, Apple, Meta, and Amazon are hit hardest<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The new rules basically outlaw many of what are currently core business practices among tech giants.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it.<\/p>\n<p>Apple, for example, will be forced to allow alternatives for downloading apps and third-party payments in the App Store \u2014 a move it\u2019s been resisting, as it\u2019d cost it the 30% commission fee it charges on transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Google and Meta will have to stop collecting data from the different services they own to offer targeted ads without users\u2019 consent.<\/p>\n<p>Apple and Google will also have to bid farewell to the numerous default apps they provide upon installation.<\/p>\n<p>As for Amazon, it\u2019ll have to stop prioritizing its own goods over third-party products and will be barred from using data collected from outside sellers on its services to offer competing products of its own.<\/p>\n<p>The DMA will certainly cost a whole lot of money to Big Tech \u2014 and it\u2019s about time. They\u2019ve been monopolizing the market for too long, decreasing business opportunities for smaller companies and startups and s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>ping their users the freedom of choice.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope that the EU\u2019s legislation will mark the beginning of a fairer digital space, and inspire other countries to follow suit.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
