Here\u2019s how to use it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Requirements\"><\/span>Requirements<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As of July 2022, to use Nearby Sharing in Windows 11, both Windows devices you want to transfer files between <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/fix-problems-with-nearby-sharing-in-windows-e6f5db3a-48c3-04f6-13d6-84db6f821455#Category=Windows_10\">must support<\/a> Bluetooth 4.0 or later with Bluetooth LE support. As long as both PCs have Bluetooth, you can share files between Windows 10 and Windows 11 as well.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have Bluetooth on your PC, good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> is on the horizon: Microsoft is experimenting with Windows 11 builds that can use Wi-Fi instead, or even a standard wired network connection through UDP. We suspect this update might arrive later in 2022 with the 22H2 update\u00a0or maybe even sooner.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Nearby Sharing only supports transfers of individual files, not folders. But as a workaround, you could ZIP the folder before sharing, then decompress it on the receiving machine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>What Is Bluetooth?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_Enable_Nearby_Sharing\"><\/span>First, Enable Nearby Sharing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To use Nearby Sharing in Windows 11, you first need to ensure it is enabled. To do so, press Windows+i to open the Settings <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>. Or you can right-click the Start menu and select \u201cSettings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-744627\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/win11_right_click_start_settings.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"363\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In Settings, select \u201cSystem,\u201d then click \u201cNearby Sharing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-819986\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/win11_system_nearby_sharing.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"231\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In Nearby Sharing settings, locate the \u201cNearby Sharing\u201d section and expand it if necessary. Then click a radio button beside either \u201cMy Devices Only\u201d or \u201cEveryone Nearby.\u201d If you choose \u201cMy Devices Only,\u201d you can only transfer files between devices signed into the same Microsoft Account. \u201cEveryone Nearby\u201d means any nearby Windows computer.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> The Settings app will remind you if you don\u2019t have Bluetooth enabled with a small notification message. If that\u2019s the case, follow the link to enable Bluetooth, then return to System &gt; Nearby Sharing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-819998\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/win11_enable_nearby_sharing.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"In System &gt; Nearby Sharing, select &quot;My Devices Only&quot; or &quot;Everyone Nearby.&quot;\" width=\"650\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After that, you can configure where Nearby Sharing files are saved to by clicking \u201cChange,\u201d or you can follow a link to rename your device in System &gt; About, which is how your Windows PC will appear to others who might share files with you.<\/p>\n<p>If you change your mind and want to disable Nearby Sharing later, you can click the \u201cNearby Sharing\u201d button in Quick Settings, or you can navigate to Settings &gt; System &gt; Nearby Sharing and select the \u201cOff\u201d option.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Turn On Bluetooth on Windows 11<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Share_Files_with_Nearby_Sharing\"><\/span>How to Share Files with Nearby Sharing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Now that Nearby Sharing is enabled, sharing a file is fairly easy. First, locate the file in File Explorer or on your desktop. Right-click the file and select the Share icon (a square with a right-pointing arrow coming out of it) in the menu that appears.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-819996\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/win11_share_button.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"257\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A special sharing window will open, and you\u2019ll see a \u201cNearby Sharing\u201d section. Windows will discover any nearby Windows PCs (they can be Windows 10 or 11) that also have Nearby Sharing enabled and match the restrictions placed in Settings (your devices vs. every device). Click the name of the PC you want to share the file with.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-819987\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/nearby_sharing_click_pc_name.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"340\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In a popup in the lower-right corner of the screen, you\u2019ll see a notice that you are sharing to that PC, and you\u2019re waiting for the device to accept. On the receiving PC, you\u2019ll see a pop-up as well. Select \u201cSave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-819988\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/receive_nearby_sharing.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"292\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Windows will wirelessly transfer the file to the other PC, and you\u2019ll see a confirmation message that the transfer was successful. You can open the file instantly by clicking \u201cOpen,\u201d select \u201cOpen Folder\u201d to view its location, or dismiss the notification.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_tip\"><p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> By default, Nearby Sharing saves files to your Downloads folder, but that can be changed in Settings &gt; System &gt; Nearby Sharing.
