He was smitten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the service, down the street \u2026 was an ice cream parlor, so all of us young people went to the parlor, got ice cream and talked and had a nice little afternoon together,\u201d Hubert recalled. \u201cThere were no automobiles or anything. So, she went her way, and I went mine. I kind of thought about how I would make contact. Hubert said he remembers sharing his first kiss with June after the fair at June\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t really know what to do,\u201d he said. \u201cI was just barely 19 and kind of a country boy. And I thought, \u2018She\u2019s looking pretty dressed in red.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cI reached over and hugged her a little bit and gave her a kiss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was so nervous about their kiss that he im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely ran out the door.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, he worried about whether June was mad about his impromptu flee. We needed to make a decision about what to do,\u201d Hubert said. \u201cWe decided it was\u00a0time to get married.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"591\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/june-and-hubert-malicote-08.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Hubert and June Malicote are parents of three kids.\" class=\"wp-image-23176637\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/june-and-hubert-malicote-08.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/june-and-hubert-malicote-08.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/june-and-hubert-malicote-08.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Hubert and June Malicote are parents of three kids.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Malicote family<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With little time to waste, the couple made an overnight <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> to Indiana to get a pre-marital blood test, which was a marriage license requirement at the time.<\/p>\n<p>They immediately traveled\u00a0back to Hamilton, so they could get married at the church where their relationship first began. June borrowed a dress from a cousin and fashioned a bouquet of roses out the church\u2019s climbing rose porch.<\/p>\n<p>Their pastor pronounced them husband and wife on June 8, 1943.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after their intimate wedding, Hubert had to board a cross-country train for his deployment. He went from San Francisco to Honolulu.<\/p>\n<p>He was\u00a0stationed at Pearl Harbor\u00a0and worked on torpedoes and submarine serpents for two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were not allowed any telephones or telegraphs \u2014 any kinds of communication that would identify where we were,\u201d Hubert told Fox News Digital. \u201cOne evening walking through the commissary, and there on the wall was a grass skirt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat kind of hit me with the idea,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I could ship that back to [June], that just might give her some indication where I was. So, I packaged it up and shipped it to her and about two or three weeks [later], I got back a beautiful lady in a grass skirt. Well, that message went through, and we got the answer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Hubert concluded his service in 1945, he boarded a train home from San Diego.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sent a telegram to my wife [about] when I would be home,\u201d Hubert said. \u201cAs we pulled into the station in Anderson, Indiana, there was nobody on the platform. But walking along beside the train longer track was that beautiful little girl again, dressed real nice and beautiful. And the conductor said, \u2018She\u2019s waiting for you.\u2019 That was a good arrival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair reunited, built their home on a five-acre ranch and raised three children, Jo, Sam and Theresa, who are all adults now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow they\u2019re married and raising their families,\u201d Hubert said, noting that he and June have seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a very, very h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y marriage,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>June agreed that her marriage to Hubert has been great and they\u2019re highly compatible.<\/p>\n<p>She spoke intermittently due to a speech limitation due to a stroke she had two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It\u2019s been] so easy to get along together,\u201d June said. \u201cWe have not even had a quarrel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their daughter, Jo Malicote, confirmed to Fox News Digital that she can\u2019t recall a single time her parents have uttered a harsh word toward each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe maybe have had disagreements. But we\u2019ve always worked them out,\u201d Hubert said. \u201cOur attitude has been that you don\u2019t hurt the one you love. Good teamwork. A good home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So far, the couple doesn\u2019t have a special birthday wish. They did blow out\u00a0100 birthday candles\u00a0on their cake with help from their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Hubert said he\u2019s not sure why he and his wife have been fortunate enough to share their 100th birthday together \u2014 but their daughter Jo said it\u2019s likely in their genetics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad\u2019s mother was 104. Dad\u2019s great-grandfather lived [for] 100 years, from 1822 to 1922,\u201d Jo told Fox News Digital. \u201cSo, they inherited good health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both June and Hubert\u2019s families hail from Kentucky;\u00a0their parents\u00a0passed on their agricultural know-how.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe raised chickens. Dad had his own beef cattle and we had our own meat, whether that was pork or beef or chicken,\u201d Jo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom had several big gardens, and so we had green beans, corn, beets, lettuce \u2014 any vegetable that you could think of. If it grew in Ohio, we had it. And Mom canned it or froze it or dried it. So, we ate healthy before it became a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cNow there\u2019s all the health magazines telling you to grow your own food. That\u2019s how they grew up. Back in their day, if you didn\u2019t make your own food, you were going to starve to death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, they learned how to do that as children. And that\u2019s how they raised us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jo Malicote added that she thinks the key to her parents\u2019 longevity is that they\u2019ve always kept busy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve never sat down and gotten lazy,\u201d Jo concluded. \u201cWe own the five acres and there\u2019s always fences to mend and there is always work to do.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
