<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       The chief executives of S&amp;P 500 companies raked in an average of $18.3 million in total compensation last year, making 324 times more than their company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n-paid workers while enjoying pay increases that well outpaced inflation, according to a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/paywatch\" class=\"icon none\">new report<\/a> from America\u2019s largest labor union federation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), which represents 12.5 million workers, used the report to spotlight the yawning gap between those occupying America\u2019s C-suites and the rank-and-file employees working in the warehouses, stores, restaurants and factories that keep the economy humming \u2014\u00a0a gap that\u2019s likely been made worse by runaway inflation. In fact, the value of the federal minimum wage is at its lowest point since 1956, according to the<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epi.org\/blog\/the-value-of-the-federal-minimum-wage-is-at-its-lowest-point-in-66-years\/\" class=\"icon none\"> left-leaning Economic Policy Institute.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p> Though some executives said worker wages were partly to blame for rising prices, workers\u2019 real wages <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/01\/12\/higher-pay-eclipses-inflation-bite-for-some-.html\" class=\"icon none\">fell 2.4%<\/a> last year after adjusting for inflation, the AFL-CIO report noted. CEO pay, meanwhile, grew by 18.2% in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year the average CEO-to-worker pay ratio of S&amp;P 500 companies was 324 to 1. In 2020, it was 299 to 1. And in 2019, it was 264 to 1,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/about\/leadership\/fred-redmond\" class=\"icon none\">AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond<\/a> said in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/speeches\/redmond-runaway-ceo-pay-has-created-perfect-storm-greedflation\" class=\"icon none\">prepared remarks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo to put a fine point on this, during the pandemic, the ratio between CEO and worker pay jumped 23%,\u201d Redmond added. \u201cInstead of investing in their workforces by raising wages and keeping the prices of their goods and services in check, their solution is to reap record profits from rising prices and cause a recession that will put working people out of our jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The biggest CEO-to-worker pay ratios were at companies including Amazon<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.77%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Expedia<br \/>\n        EXPE,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202291990\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.92%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       McDonald\u2019s<br \/>\n        MCD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203508018\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.21%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       and The TJX Companies<br \/>\n        TJX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203136811\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.03%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       according to the report. The Amazon CEO-to-worker pay ratio of 6,474 to 1 topped out the S&amp;P 500 Index<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.93%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       companies, with the median worker making $32,855 while CEO Andy Jassy received $212.7 million in total compensation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As MarketWatch previously reported, Jassy\u2019s total 2021 compensation included a base salary of $175,000, in addition to $200 million-plus in stock awards. Those stock awards, which will represent much of his compensation in the coming years, are scheduled to vest over the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way the SEC rules work we are required to report that grant as total compensation for 2021, when in reality it will vest over the next 10 years,\u201d an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cWhat this equates to from an annual compensation perspective is competitive with that of CEOs at other large companies and was <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved by the Amazon Board of Directors. As noted in the proxy, this award is intended to represent most of Andy\u2019s compensation for the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amazon jobs have an average starting salary of more than $18 an hour, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Kern, the CEO of Expedia Group, was the highest-paid CEO in the S&amp;P 500 last year, according to the AFL-CIO report, with $296.2 million in compensation.
