Not only on elevated lines and in stations (where spotty service already exists), but in the long, dark tunnels between them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople today want to be able to send emails, or texts, or look at their <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> feed or do whatever through their entire <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>,\u201d said Fredericka Cuenca, MTA deputy chief development officer for planning.<\/p>\n<p>Phooey, I say.<\/p>\n<p>Never mind that the MTA would take 10 years \u2014 longer than it took to build the new Second Avenue line \u2014 to install this supposed technological \u00adtriumph.<\/p>\n<p>Never mind that it\u2019s bananas to let people Google porn sites en route to the office while the system\u2019s real crises \u2014 crime and lousy service \u2014 await solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Cell use underground would stink even if it could be set up overnight, even if it didn\u2019t cost the MTA a dime (which the agency claims it won\u2019t), and even if the trains ran as smoothly as the Swiss railways.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Call me nuts \u2014 but I\u2019ll take Mexican guitar trios, off-key trumpet players, Jesus preachers and even \u201cI\u2019m sorry to disturb your journey\u201d hustlers over cacophonous, vapid cell-phone jabber.<\/p>\n<p>On the train, I\u2019m spared from hearing about my fellow citizens\u2019 domestic emergencies, dating dilemmas and monkeypox theories.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/shutterstock_1809516118.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"New Yorkers riding subway with masks after the lockdown, New York City.\" class=\"wp-image-23215053\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/shutterstock_1809516118.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2048 2048w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/shutterstock_1809516118.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/shutterstock_1809516118.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/shutterstock_1809516118.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Without cell service in the subways, riders aren\u2019t subjected loud phone calls.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Shutterstock \/ CHOONGKY<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOn my way, honey!\u201d \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Get out of my face!\u2019\u2009\u201d \u201cMy cat threw up on me!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Can\u2019t such momentous statements wait till the next stop?<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>I\u2019ve used the subway since the days when cars actually had straps to hang onto. It\u2019s my favorite place to mix and mingle with real New Yorkers in all their funky variety and glory.<\/p>\n<p>The few minutes between stations are precious to those of us who find a grinding, squealing subway car a counterintuitively cozy cocoon of Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le life.<\/p>\n<p>Subways can be sexy. See the lovebirds all over each other! And mysterious. Why is that banker-type guy sound asleep at 3 p.m.? Where are young women in gauzy halter tops on their way to at midnight?<\/p>\n<p>But banal cellphone yakking turns the mystique to mush \u2014 and passengers into prisoners of yada yada yada.<\/p>\n<p>Ah, you may ask: But what about an emergency? What if, OMG, the train gets stuck between stations?<\/p>\n<p>Well, I\u2019d rather be in a stopped car full of nervous, silent passengers than in one where everybody is saying \u201cOmigod we\u2019re stuck between stations\u201d at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s keep the trains cellphone-free before there\u2019s no place left to hide from them.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
