Vellani started the interview by saying she was partially excited because one of <em>Ms. Marvel<\/em>\u2019s producers, Sana Amanat, was previously on the show in 2016.<br \/>\n <!-- No winning ad found for zone: word count #1! --><!-- No winning ad found for zone: below first paragraph! --><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\u201c[The interview] was the first thing I watched after I read the Ms. Marvel comics for the first time. And I was, like, obsessed with her. I was like \u2018how did she get a job at Marvel Comics and be brown and a woman at the same time? [Later] I was so jealous\u2014me being like 15 years old. But yeah, I was obsessed with her. And now, six years later, I\u2019m here talking about Ms. Marvel. And she\u2019s here too somewhere.\u201d\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Besides playing one of the latest superheroes in the <em>MCU<\/em> franchise, Vellani is also known for being a fan of the franchise as well. Growing up, besides McDonald\u2019s, she would spend her allowance on Marvel comics. Like in the mirror? [laughs] No, it was crazy. She felt so different than all the other Muslim teenagers I was used to seeing in mainstream <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>. She was using her culture as something that guided her. And it wasn\u2019t something she neglected at all. And on top of that, she was a huge fan. And the show is\u2014the comics were never about being Muslim or being Pakistani. It was about this superhero-obsessed dork who just h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ens to be Muslim and Pakistani. And that\u2019s how I felt in real life. And it was really comforting reading those comics.\u201d\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!-- No winning ad found for zone: word count #2! --><br \/>\nDuring one of the quarantines, Vellani made a stop-motion video with her Iron Man and Kamala action figures. \u201cIt was like literally my action figures dancing or something.\u201d Vellani then sent the video to Kevin Feige and the show\u2019s producers with zero context, and they liked it. And if you\u2019re awkward, then it\u2019s just a double whammy.\u201d Then he came back on a later Wednesday and said something along the lines of \u2018Hey, Iman, heard you\u2019re doing a great job,\u2019 and she again stared at him until he left again. According to Vellani, Amanat ended up playing mediator between them at one point, which was awkward.<br \/>\n<!-- Zone: character count repeatable. --><br \/>\n <!-- No winning ad found for zone: word count #3! --><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\u201cAnd then he came back Wednesday, and I had written this four-page letter. The first page was like me gushing over him. The next three pages were like 70 questions about the MCU and his life\u2026 And I gave him this letter, and the next day he called me and like answered the first 40 over Zoom. So yeah. I am more comfortable with the man now.\u201d\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Vellani has been working on the project for two years at this point. During that time, she was privy to secrets and plot points that she obviously couldn\u2019t share. Until now, at least, since Ms. Marvel completed its six-episode run on July 13th. According to Vellani, it feels so nice now because she \u201ccan breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\u201cI\u2019m not present on social media publicly, but I do have like a lot of private accounts. Especially on Reddit. I\u2019m just arguing with people about theories. I\u2019m like, \u2018you don\u2019t even know what\u2019s coming, man. Like, you\u2019re so wrong.\u2019 It\u2019s so liberating.\u201d\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!-- No winning ad found for zone: word count #4! --><br \/>\nBefore the show, Vellani had planned on going to college and rooming with a group of friends. That ended up not happening once she was cast, though. Vellani ended the interview by talking about how she was with that same friend group when she learned she got the part. It was the last day of high school, and they were out doing stuff.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\u201cAnd I get this text from Sarah Finn, and she\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, can you get on this call?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018No.\u2019 And then they were like, \u2018We sent you the link. Get on right now.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Okay.\u2019 And I\u2019m in my friend\u2019s driveway, and they\u2019re watching me from the car, and I\u2019m trying not to have a ration \u2018cause Kevin Feige\u2019s on my phone. It was just\u2014my brain was spinning. And then I get back in the car, and they were like, \u2018So what happened? Did You like win the lottery or something?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Basically.\u2019\u201d\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!-- No winning ad found for zone: word count #5! --><br \/>\nWhile a second season of <em>Ms. Marvel<\/em> hasn\u2019t been announced, Vellani will reprise her role in <em>The Marvels<\/em>, starring alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris. It\u2019s set to be released on July 28th, 2023.
